About The Position

PDI is seeking a Supply Chain Intern to join our dynamic team. Our company is dedicated to providing high-quality products and exceptional service across all business segments, emphasizing flexibility to meet customer needs. Since 1973, PDI has been a leader in wholesale distribution, serving the plumbing, home building, and remodeling industries with 19 branches and 13 showrooms across Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. This internship program offers significant operational leadership and development opportunities, providing hands-on experience in various cross-functional supply chain teams. Interns will gain insight into branch operations, assist with material intake and shipment using a Warehouse Management System (WMS), manage shipping and receiving, and handle inventory using ERP system data. The program includes one-on-one time with Branch Managers to monitor productivity, coordinate with sales teams, review inventory, resolve discrepancies, and analyze sales reports. Participants will learn to interpret data through rotations with Purchasing and E-Commerce teams, understanding material flow strategies, reordering points, and online content management. A key component of the internship is a continuous improvement project, which will be presented to senior management upon completion.

Requirements

  • Currently working on completing a bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have a strong interest in pursuing a career in branch operations (all majors welcome).

  • Proficient in basic computing (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to stand for 8-10 hours.

  • Must be able to travel to multiple locations in the Southeast.

Responsibilities

  • Work in all areas of branch operations.
  • Become familiar with warehouse layout.
  • Pull orders using the WMS during the shipping rotation.
  • Prepare items for shipment.
  • Assist the Shipping Supervisor with daily operations.
  • Communicate inventory discrepancies through appropriate channels.
  • Assist in creating routes for drivers.
  • Prioritize orders based on requested delivery date.
  • Communicate shipment status to sales personnel upon request.
  • Verify quantities, unload, and store incoming material.
  • Assist the Receiving Supervisor with daily operations.
  • Review purchase orders.
  • Review packing slips.
  • Communicate purchase order discrepancies to the Purchasing team.
  • Schedule drop-off material.
  • Ensure material is put away promptly.
  • Assist the transfers department in distributing materials to branches.
  • Work on a project that promotes continuous improvement throughout the program.
  • Present the completed project to senior-level managers.
  • Shadow management on a branch level to learn day-to-day operations.
  • Assist the purchasing team in procuring material, creating transfer orders, and monitoring material movement.
  • Assist the E-Commerce team to manage online content, update product information, and produce online sales.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
