About The Position

This role is responsible for designing and maintaining standards, expertise, policies, procedures, and manuals for Supplier Quality. This includes determining new supply sources, managing supplier quality relations, standardizing measurements, and defining acceptable material criteria. The position involves compiling supplier performance KPI metrics and participating in the development of supplier scorecards. The engineer will ensure suppliers meet requirements and develop them as needed. Support will be provided to the Sourcing team in selecting and assessing potential suppliers, as well as to New Product Development (NPD) projects. The role requires interfacing with personnel from multiple plants to resolve chronic or major supplier issues and verify supplier understanding of process/product requirements. Implementation and maintenance of quality improvement and auditing systems with suppliers, focusing on process controls, quality control, quality management, and quality systems, are key responsibilities. The engineer will review engineering specifications and drawings to assess supplier capabilities, advise on necessary modifications from a material standpoint, and review new and modified product designs. Approval of Supplier PPAPs, including review and auditing of deliverables such as Control Plans, Capability Studies, Part layouts, Gage R&R, and PFEMA, is required. Project management efforts regarding supplier changes will be supported or led. The role involves engaging suppliers, internal resources, and plant personnel to drive containment and closed-loop closure of significant quality issues, ensuring that supplier quality issues are resolved using appropriate problem-solving methodologies like Root Cause, 8D, and decision matrices. Assistance will be provided to multiple plants for third-party audits concerning supplier qualifications and performance. The position also supports Purchasing and Customer Service in expediting products from suppliers during urgent situations. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering related field.
  • 5+ years demonstrated quality systems knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to travel expectation 50% up to 75%.
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing.
  • Capable to summarize test data and report for external customers.
  • Problem solving tools (KT, 8D, etc.).
  • Familiarity in Advanced Quality Planning including AIAG Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PPAPs, MSA and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards.
  • Experience using Minitab or other statistical tools.
  • Strong self-motivation and communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to think outside the box and suggest/implement continuous improvement ideas.
  • Strong analytical thinking.
  • Good level of inter-personal relationships, interface with foreign personal.
  • Being able to perform successfully in a matrix organization; Capable to lead complex efforts on behalf of the Quality leadership across functions.
  • Self-started and being able to work independently.
  • Previous experience as an auditor for ISO 9001/TS 16949 or VDA Quality Systems, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt or Certified Quality Engineer preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain standards expertise, policies, procedures, and manuals for Supplier Quality on the determination of new supply sources, supplier quality relations, standardization of measurements, and acceptable criteria of materials.
  • Compile supplier performance KPI metrics and participate in supplier scorecard development.
  • Ensure suppliers meet requirements and develop suppliers to meet these requirements as needed.

  • Review and approve Suppliers PPAP’s; review and audit the deliverables including: Control Plans, Capability Studies, Part layouts, Gage R&R, PFEMA, and support or lead project management efforts regarding supplier changes.
  • Involve suppliers, internal resources, plant personnel to drive containment and closed-loop closure to significant quality issue.
  • Ensure that Supplier quality issues are resolved using an appropriate problem-solving methodology like; Root Cause, 8D and decision matrices.
  • Assist multiple plants on third party audit regarding supplier qualifications and performance.
  • Assist Purchasing and Customer Service to expedite product from suppliers in urgent situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
