The Supplier Quality Engineer SQE is responsible to execute in all aspects of Supplier Quality. The SQE will be responsible for ensuring that suppliers continue to develop and implement best practices that emphasize defect prevention, reduce variation and waste, continuous improvement, meet VCC quality standards, and ensure that procedures and processes are adhered to. Reporting directly to Supplier Quality Management within the Quality Department, the Supplier Quality Engineer will collaborate closely with Quality Engineers, NPD, Sourcing, Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, and our Suppliers. The key area of responsibility is supplier quality for both new development and production products. Duties include but are not limited to issuing CARs to suppliers and seeing them through to completion, working closely with suppliers to develop and assure process control, working internally to capture key processes and product characteristics/recipes via document control, assisting in product issue resolution for customer and production complaints, and participate in supplier visits/audits. Other duties include supporting production with quality issues as needed. The Supplier Quality Engineer is also involved with programming on our Keyence XM equipment for product measurements, as well as heavily involved with NPI and supplier PPAP.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ previous experience in quality (preferably supplier quality role)
  • College graduate bachelor’s degree
  • Strong aptitude for and proficiency navigating JDE and WMS
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail and critical thinking
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and changing priorities
  • Ability to achieve results both independently and through others by fostering a spirit of teamwork and cooperation
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication across all contact channels, including email, chat and phone
  • Must exhibit proficient analytical and computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and outlook
  • Proven background in use of quality tools including but not limited to six sigma, DMAIC, root cause / 8D
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, early mornings, late evenings
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for this role

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in interior design, custom home building products, luxury home furnishings and/or lighting industry a plus

Responsibilities

  • Utilize a production part approval / acceptance process and develop criteria and documentation to include supplier inspection procedures and VCC incoming quality validation procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate quality performance metrics (quality and process compliance reports) and drive resolution of issues, including CAPA.
  • Implement and manage a rejected product process at the supplier facilities.
  • Work directly with the suppliers to significantly improve overall part quality. Drive improvements to the supplier’s quality system, manage the root cause analysis and corrective action process of suppliers. Drive process control.
  • Initiate projects to reduce incoming inspections and enable dock to stock of incoming material.
  • Support new product launches to ensure suppliers are capable of delivering to the required quality standards. Work with the quality engineer to communicate requirements from NPD such as FAI, capability studies and PPAP. Create programs on measurement system to aid with inspection of NPD and production parts.
  • Perform new supplier audits.
  • Help analyze defective product to be able to communicate clearly to suppliers the failure mode and or root cause.
  • Works effectively with others in a team environment to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.
