This position will focus on supporting Music Therapy services within our outpatient rehabilitation network. During the initial 3-month period, the therapist will assist with integrating and expanding Music Therapy services across multiple outpatient clinics while helping evaluate future program growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • MT-BC required
  • NMT certification required
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CPR certification required
  • Must be board certified (MT-BC) through The Certification Board for Music Therapists, or eligible to sit for the certification exam, and have completed Neurologic Music Therapy training (NMT).
  • TIRR Specific Requirement: Complete training in suctioning, weight shifts, Positive Behavioral Support and transfers within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Experience in treating pediatric and adult persons with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputee, stroke, musculoskeletal, pain management and pediatric diagnoses preferred; or internship specializing in the above diagnoses preferred.
  • Clinical experience in treating individuals who have experienced trauma, physical or emotional, or changes in body image or physical functioning is preferred.
  • Clinical experience in physical rehabilitation with a minimum of one (1) year experience preferred.
  • Experience in treating patients in a wide age range from infant to adult preferred.
  • Able to demonstrate competency and a basic knowledge of age specific criteria in the patient populations served within the introductory period.

Responsibilities

  • Provides weight shifts for patients, transfer patients and suction patients.
  • Evaluates and treats patients according to appropriate age group and diagnosis.
  • Serves as an educational resource on using therapeutic music activities with children and youth in the health care environment.
  • Maintains all essential documentation.
  • Represents the Music Therapy department in interdepartmental activities.
  • Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
