Student - Supplemental Instruction Leaders
About The Position
The Supplemental Instruction program is hiring SI leaders to guide students through weekly structured study sessions for historically difficult classes. SI leaders work with faculty and other leaders throughout the semester and attend ongoing training. The role also includes observing other SI leaders and providing constructive feedback, as well as contributing to Academic Tutoring initiatives and maintaining professional relationships with faculty. This is an autonomous position requiring direct and intrinsic motivation. SI leaders are expected to complete their work independently while following program policies and procedures. The position is a semester-long commitment.
Requirements
- Must be a current UVU student with a GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Must have earned a B or better in the SI course at UVU.
- Ability to motivate oneself to learn and practice SI techniques introduced in training.
- Ability to exercise integrity and professionalism while working autonomously.
- Ability to understand and adhere to program policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to completing the semester.
Responsibilities
- Attend mandatory pre-semester and monthly trainings.
- Consistently attend 3–4 hours of class per week.
- Plan and facilitate 3–4 weekly structured study sessions.
- Observe other SI leaders and provide constructive feedback.
- Cultivate professional relationships with faculty, students, and other SI leaders.
- Collaborate with other leaders and contribute to Academic Tutoring initiatives.
- Plan and lead structured SI sessions that integrate study skills with course content.
- Analyze student needs in the assigned lecture and adjust session plans accordingly.
- Speak in front of assigned lectures and communicate with students about the purpose of SI sessions.
- Follow program policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality.
- Contribute to and actively practice the educational foundations of the program.
