About The Position

The VA New Jersey HealthCare System has 1 vacancy for a Supervisory Social Worker -Program Coordinator. The incumbent in this position will manage the Post-9/11 Military to VA (M2VA) Case Management Program, responsible for administrative and operational oversight for the social workers within the Inpatient Acute Social Work Program (IASW), Radiation Oncology Social Work Program (Rad-Onc SW), and Spinal Cord Injury Social Work Program (SCISW), located within EO & LY medical centers and 9 CBOCs.

Requirements

  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement.

  • Must serve a 1 or 2-year trial period.
  • Master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
  • Licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
  • Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency.
  • Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
  • Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s), across the facility.
  • Skill in local policy and practice development, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive.
  • Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care.
  • Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action.
  • Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure and impact on program operations.

  • Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited.
  • A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.

  • Candidates may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and supervising interdisciplinary staffing of Social Work Case Managers, and a Program Support Assistant.
  • Responsible for daily work assignments, treatment services provided, outreach activities, community training and admission criteria of both programs.
  • Responsible for budgets and several fund control points.
  • Manages and controls the use of data related to these programs regarding day-to-day functioning and program evaluation.
  • Plans, organizes and directs administrative, operational, patient and personnel activities for the program.
  • Sets priorities and makes assignments according to capabilities of employees.
  • Administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to post-9/11 Veterans as well as inpatients on acute units, Veterans served by PACT Social Workers, SCI Social Workers and Radiation Oncology.
  • Develops and implements information systems to track service activities including visits, referrals, patient demographics, equipment utilization and patient satisfaction.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates clinical guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services.
  • Performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance, training and consultation to DOD, State, local, and private agencies, and universities.
  • Uses sound judgment in the interpretation of Veteran trends and patterns; the application of guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements.
  • Performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contact work as possible with various agencies (public, DOD, state, etc.).
  • Performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of various programs under his/her purview.
  • Responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component.
  • Ensures post-9/11 Veterans receive comprehensive preventive mental and physical health evaluations and oversees care management.
  • Ensures that Veterans and his/her family members are provided information about VHA and VBA entitlements, orientation to the facility, referrals to needed services, and are guided through the system in a supportive and sensitive manner that is efficient and cost effective.
  • Will be knowledgeable on developmental and training needs of employees, and where possible, will assist subordinates in addressing these needs.
  • Responsible for setting performance standards and reviews work to determine acceptable levels of quality and quantity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
