About The Position

This National Guard position is for a Supervisory IT Specialist (INFOSEC/NETWORK) within the 229th Information Operations Squadron of the Vermont Air National Guard. The role is located in a Cyberspace Operations unit, responsible for protecting the nation's war-fighters' information, cyber mission systems, computer networks, critical infrastructure, and key resources. The position serves as the Cyberspace Operations (CYO) Section Supervisor, overseeing operators who perform and prepare for various cyber missions, including Cyber Protection Teams (CPT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), AF Cyber Defense (ACD), Cyber Command and Control Mission System (C3MS), and National Mission Teams (NMT). The supervisor is also responsible for managing all CYO assessment equipment and tools.

Requirements

  • National Guard Membership is required: Must be a member of the Vermont Air National Guard in a compatible military assignment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET clearance level.
  • Must be certified IAW DOD 8570.01-M, Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002, Clinger Cohen Act of 1996 and current AF directives.
  • IT-related experience demonstrating attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem-solving.
  • At least 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, which includes experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area.
  • Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment, including coordination with others and development of project controls.
  • Experience adapting guidelines or precedents to meet assignment needs.
  • Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies.
  • Supervisory specialized experience in managing the work to be performed, including leading, directing, and assigning work of personnel.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Responsibilities

  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities, including advising employees, selecting candidates, developing performance standards, providing feedback, appraising performance, recommending awards, and approving within-grade increases.
  • Hears and resolves employee complaints, initiates corrective actions for performance or conduct issues, and effects minor disciplinary measures.
  • Identifies employee developmental needs and arranges for training, approves leave schedules, and ensures security responsibilities are met.
  • Recognizes and corrects situations posing a threat to the health or safety of subordinates and applies EEO principles.
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of a CPT, ICS, ACD, C3MS, or NMT operations section, developing goals and objectives.
  • Plans work for accomplishment by subordinate teams, sets short-term priorities, and prepares schedules.
  • Provides direction and advice regarding policies, procedures, and guidelines, and reviews work and management techniques of subordinates.
  • Makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinate operators and coordinates with other supervisors and leadership.
  • Oversees the management of CYO Weapon System tools.
  • Prepares Unit Training Assembly, Annual Training, and currency training events for Mission Ready Cyberspace Operators.
  • Monitors assigned military members' readiness status and ensures deficiencies are recognized and addressed.
  • Works with the scheduling section to provide opportunities for assigned members to maintain full mission readiness.
  • Ensures training for each event has been prepared and is ready, and coordinates with the maintenance section to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Performs cyberspace operations to protect information and information systems by ensuring their availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation.
  • Provides mission assurance of information systems by incorporating protection, detection, and reaction capabilities.
  • Conducts risk and vulnerability assessments of DoD information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs.
