About The Position

This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Commissioner located in Washington, DC. The primary function of this position is to serve as a first-line Supervisory Border Patrol Agent responsible for supervising personnel assigned to support Office of the Commissioner border enforcement, tactical operations, protective security support, personnel security support, readiness, and special operations. This position starts at a salary of $147,899.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $192,275.00 (GS-14, Step 10).

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • All pre-employment processes will be conducted in English.
  • May be required to pass a background investigation and/or polygraph.
  • Must be able to meet job-related medical and/or fitness standards.
  • Must have successfully completed the BORTAC Selection and Training Course.
  • Must possess the ability to operate a Government Owned Vehicle.
  • A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required.
  • Must be willing and available to work rotating shifts.
  • May be rotated between assignments and duty locations.
  • Could be required to work overtime on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to meet initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms.
  • Must be proficient in the Spanish language (able to speak and read in Spanish).
  • Must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Leading, directing, or overseeing Border Patrol Agent personnel or teams supporting border enforcement, tactical operations, protective security, readiness, or special operations. Planning, assigning, reviewing, or coordinating work related to border enforcement operations, threat assessments, protective security support, training readiness, equipment accountability, or operational documentation. Advising leadership on Border Patrol enforcement operations, BORTAC capabilities, tactical security postures, operational risk, access control, or emerging border security threats. Reviewing operational reports, intelligence products, law enforcement information, field feedback, or security-related information to identify vulnerabilities, access concerns, operational gaps, or readiness needs. Coordinating with Border Patrol sectors, stations, BORTAC elements, CBP components, security officials, or law enforcement partners to support protective operations, border enforcement priorities, or special operations.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with individuals or groups of persons in a courteous, tactful manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions or take prompt and appropriate law enforcement action in light of applicable laws, court decisions, and sound law enforcement procedures; and develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
  • Must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service (for current federal employees).
  • Must obtain a Top Secret/SCI level clearance.

  • May be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within 90 days of assignment to this position.
  • SLT and SFTU training may be waived if previously completed or the supervisor is non-probationary.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises personnel assigned to support Office of the Commissioner border enforcement, tactical operations, protective security support, personnel security support, readiness, and special operations.
  • Provides senior Border Patrol enforcement and BORTAC advisory support to Office of the Commissioner leadership on complex Border Patrol operations, tactical initiatives, security considerations, and critical border security issues.
  • Reviews operational reports, intelligence products, law enforcement information, personnel security-related information, and field feedback to identify vulnerabilities, operational gaps, access-related concerns, and emerging threats.
  • Supports protective security operations for the Commissioner by overseeing border-focused assessments, route reconnaissance, threat analysis, venue reviews, enforcement support, access control measures, and tactical response options.
  • Identifies training and readiness needs; ensures required qualifications are maintained; and monitors equipment accountability and operational readiness.
