About The Position

The Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in overseeing operations of a nursing unit or patient care area. The role fosters team development, ensures compliance with clinical practice standards, and serves as a liaison between staff and leadership. It combines clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities and may serve as part of a succession plan for future Nurse Manager positions. The ANM exercises direct supervisory authority over nursing personnel in the patient care area, including assigning and directing work, approving schedules and leave, evaluating performance, serving as a hiring official, recommending awards, and proposing discipline or grievance adjustments. For employees not directly supervised by the ANM, the role assists the Nurse Manager by drafting schedules and leave requests, providing performance input, and helping make candidate-selection recommendations. The ANM applies clinical knowledge and judgment to lead staff participation in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. The role provides feedback to the Nurse Manager, supports timely care consistent with accepted practice standards, oversees work assignments, and provides contact reports or fact-finding assistance as needed. The ANM equips staff to provide competent care, promotes accountability for high-quality and cost-effective outcomes, and contributes to care-delivery models and environmental design that support evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Compressed or flexible scheduling is available. Telework and virtual work are not available.
