About The Position

Supervisor Systems Operation Gas and Water will train and supervise employees in the control and operation of the gas and water production, transmission/distribution systems to maximize system efficiency and minimize customer service interruptions; compliance with federal and state regulations as they relate to the integrity of the MLGW gas and water systems.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license from state of residence is required.
  • A current Supervisor, Systems Operation - Gas and Water Qualification Certification is required.
  • Associate's degree in civil or mechanical engineering OR High School diploma/ General Education Development (G.E.D.) is required.
  • 2 - 4 years senior professional experience in operating gas and water systems and dispatching of gas and water distribution and operation systems with an associate's degree OR 6-8 years senior professional experience in operating gas and water systems and dispatching of gas and water distribution and operation systems with High School Diploma/GED are required.
  • Must have passed Operator’s Qualification Certification.
  • Must successfully complete NIMS Training within 1 year of entering job.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and layout departmental work which includes the control/operation of gas/water production/transmission and distribution systems; coordination of maintenance/construction operations and troubleshooting of malfunctioning systems facilities with various area/departments; maintenance of proper pressures, flows, reserves; and related activities to ensure timely completion of work commitments.
  • Responsible for gas/water service restoration to transmission/distribution systems via the Energy Control System (ECS).
  • Dispatching of accurate maintenance work orders to gas/water distribution/ operation crews; ensuring immediate response to customer/employee emergencies such as radio signal 91's and gas/water leaks, and facilitation/ coordination of gas/water emergency response plans.
  • Inspect work to ensure an adequate quantity/quality of work is achieved; provide information and instructions to employees; resolve problems.
  • Prepare and/or verify various reports/records such as the area budget, statistical reports/processes, time reporting, performance appraisals, etc.
  • Responsible for the overall Gas/Water Systems Operation area which includes implementation of customer curtailment and LNG Plant usage to ensure penalties are not incurred due to overruns.
  • Insurance of adherence to gas/water contractual agreements, rules, regulations, codes and procedures; maintenance of training programs; participation on crisis team; insurance of alcohol/drug testing based on D.O.T. guidelines; and related activities.
  • Provide technical assistance to various customers and requesting parties.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations of the gas/water and Energy Control Systems, contracts, State of Tennessee Department of Public Health rules/regulations, Department of Transportation rules/regulations, operating codes and emergency response plans.
  • Stay abreast of Division policies/procedures and up-to-date developments related to Systems Operation.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
