About The Position

The Supervisor – Sterile Processing will oversee technical and non-technical activities of the department. Primary responsibilities include managing staff to ensure daily operations such as cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, assembly, sterilization, and case carts assembly are completed. The Supervisor will assist in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures and will educate and hold staff accountable to the AAMI standards as well as regulatory rules and guidelines. Department goals and objectives will be developed, deployed and monitored in collaboration with the Sterile Processing Manager.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in business or related area or licensure preferred.
  • CST or CSPT or IAHCSMM-CRCST, or other recognized SPD certification required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in Sterile Processing.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Team-oriented management style.
  • Positive communication.
  • Experience in process improvement activities.
  • Proficient writing and verbal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical and non-technical activities of the department.
  • Manage staff to ensure daily operations such as cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, assembly, sterilization, and case carts assembly are completed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures.
  • Educate and hold staff accountable to AAMI standards and regulatory rules and guidelines.
  • Develop, deploy, and monitor department goals and objectives in collaboration with the Sterile Processing Manager.
  • Identify and maintain functional equipment and assist in the resolution of problems.
  • Inform SPD staff, surgery ORA, and OR staff on instrumentation status at daily report.
  • Maintain and evaluate sterilization and equipment maintenance records.
  • Perform Sterile processing tasks including, but not limited to, decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization of instrumentation, and case cart set up.
  • Assist Manager with staff schedule and help maintain daily schedule.
  • Provide assistance in orientation of SPD staff on new systems and special procedures in coordination with the SPD Educator.
  • Participate in policy development.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection process for new department staff.
  • Evaluate employees’ performance.
  • Troubleshoot and/or repair surgical equipment and instrumentation as required.
  • Facilitate loaner replacements as necessary and track the status of the item.
  • Maintain a minimum inventory level of both supplies and instruments.
  • Attend seminars and meetings related to issues pertinent to SPD.
  • Maintain current knowledge of issues by reading and sharing with staff.
  • Participate in the development of Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Participate and collaborate in the evaluation of equipment and supplies and participate in recalls when notified by manufacturer or Administration.
  • Maintain a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Pursue self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities.
  • Participate on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
