About The Position

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Job Summary The StuCons Supervisor, under the direction of the StuCons Head Manager, will primarily be responsible for management and leadership of QSC staff while working in field at events. This position will exhibit working knowledge of the liquor license act and ensure that both patrons, pub staff, and fellow QSC staff act in compliance with these standards. This role will also attend monthly management/supervisor meetings to work in tandem with QSC management in providing consistent quality of service and leadership to the Queen’s student community. The StuCons Supervisor must possess the ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations and demonstrate effective leadership and time management skills.

Requirements

  • Ability to intervene in sensitive and high stress situations involving vulnerable patrons with patience and compassion
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Security Guard license
  • Must hold a valid First Aid certification
  • Must hold a valid Smart Serve certification

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating and writing incident reports
  • Exhibiting working knowledge of the Liquor License Act and ensuring the pub staff act in compliance.
  • Training and monitoring staff to ensure their compliance with standards.
  • Attending at least 2-3 promotional events and staff socials throughout each term to help support upper management and facilitate a healthy team environment.
  • Serving as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement.
  • Monitoring employee performance to ensure it is aligned with established standards to mitigate disciplinary action in accordance with established and notifying Head Manager of any issues that arise.
  • Exhibiting a working knowledge of service staff portfolios.
  • Ensuring all customer complaints are addressed and handled professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution.
  • Assisting with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed.
  • Maintaining a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to set a positive example for your team.
  • Acting as an active role model and example for QSC service staff in field and being the main point of information while in field at events for both staff and patrons.
  • Respecting and adhering to all company policies, procedures and ethical standards.
  • Maintaining timely communication with your direct supervisor.
  • Completing all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively.
