About The Position

The Quality Control Supervisor performs material and product testing, maintains all records generated or utilized by the department, develops and initiates test protocols, independently investigates product failures, qualifies methods and standards, and writes accurate and concise technical reports. This role provides leadership by supervising QC interns, assigning tasks, tracking progress, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Supervisor shall possess experience in manufacturing and GLP environments and demonstrate strong organizational and team management skills.

Requirements

  • An M.S. or B.S. in a Chemical or Biological discipline
  • Four years of experience in a scientific setting with a minimum of three years in a Quality Control/Assurance or supporting role.
  • Position specific education and training may be considered towards experience.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods.
  • Extensive use of computer keyboard, mouse and monitor.
  • Ability to lift at least 35 pounds.
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to handle items and perceive attributes of objects, and be able to perform light physical, non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature.
  • Must be able to function in an indoor office, laboratory, and production setting.
  • Must be able to deal with exposure to frequent air contamination such as disagreeable odors and may be exposed to toxic or caustic substances which will require the use of applicable PPE such as safety glasses, lab coats, and respirators.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time during the course of daily activities.
  • Must be able to fly or drive for extended periods, up to 15 hours and including overnight.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in workload priorities, ability to prioritize tasks, ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to substantially understand the position to apply knowledge and skills to tasks and projects.
  • Ability to perform detailed procedures and tasks that require moderate independent planning, initiative, and judgement.
  • Ability to understand implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • Ability to competently exercise independent judgement in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations and to write detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to rent cars if necessary. Ability to travel by car, train, and air domestically and internationally. Expected travel for this position may be up to five weeks per year and will be overnight, periodically on weekends, and up to two weeks in duration for one trip.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the performance of material and develop/ analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine current standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectation for finished products.
  • Play a lead role in assisting internal studies including designing experiments, testing, analyzing data and final reports.
  • Ensure final reports accurately reflect the data, results, and conclusions of the testing, including any unanticipated results.
  • Ensure procedures and reports are current with in-house and published methods.
  • Understand and follow applicable regulatory requirements (GLP, OECD, etc.) and ensure that all applicable Good Laboratory Practice regulations.
  • Prepare and review written procedures including SOPs, test methods, study protocols, etc.
  • Ensure method validation and test controls are adequate to support the test methodology.
  • Maintain sample and data traceability throughout testing.
  • Ensure calculations and statistics accurately reflect the raw data and that test controls and monitors are accurately recorded and reviewed.
  • Perform raw material and finished product sampling, testing, and disposition assuring adequate, appropriate, and complete documentation within established time frames.
  • Isolate and maintain bacterial and fungal cultures. Conduct and manage insect, plant, microbial, and other biological assays in the laboratory and in vivo efficacy tests in the growth chamber/greenhouse.
  • Lead investigation of complaints, corrective actions, and nonconforming materials.
  • Monitor R&D and manufacturing policies, safety concerns, and environmental conditions that can impact product quality.
  • Manage the storage, tracking, and preservation of product retains.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate calibration and maintenance of test stations and equipment.
  • Monitor supply levels, ordering laboratory chemicals and materials as needed.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures, and report all unsafe activities to appropriate supervisor.
  • Supervise QC interns and technicians, evaluate their performance, and provide constructive feedback to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Manage interns’ schedules and ensure that the daily schedule file is updated each week.
  • Assist in training QC personnel, including interns, technicians, assistants, and associates, on QC procedures and equipment maintenance.
  • Collaborate to prioritize tasks and ensure smooth operation and timely completion of work.
  • Provide feedback on corrective actions and support continuous improvement in lab processes.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of new QC interns by participating in interviews and training programs.
  • Provide coverage and support to QC manager during scheduled time off.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing knowledge and skills.
  • Work weekends as needed to fulfill position requirements.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and peers.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and understand nonverbal symbolism such as graphs, formulas and scientific equations.
  • Use intermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.
  • Perform general department maintenance.
  • Participate in efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and by sharing knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
