Supervisor Quality Control Microbiology
About The Position
The Supervisor Quality Control Microbiology oversees second-shift Quality Control Microbiology operations. The department performs pharmaceutical microbiology activities, including environmental, personnel, and utility monitoring, as well as raw material, in-process, and product release testing. The position ensures daily operations are completed accurately, promptly, and reliably to help ensure medicines are safe and effective before reaching patients. The supervisor coordinates laboratory and manufacturing-facility testing and monitoring, reviews results and quality records, supports investigations and audits, and maintains safety and current Good Manufacturing Practice standards. The role also includes personnel management, team development, project leadership, and communication with management about complex matters and longer-term team goals. The position is based in Rensselaer, New York, and works Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Life Sciences or a related field.
- At least 5 years of progressive, relevant experience.
- Supervisory or leadership experience.
- Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in pharmaceutical microbiology is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate testing and monitoring activities within the QC laboratory and manufacturing facility.
- Review test results, procedures, protocols, and quality system records.
- Attend cross-functional meetings to stay informed of business needs.
- Organize laboratory investigations and assay troubleshooting as needed.
- Support internal and regulatory audits.
- Ensure safety and current Good Manufacturing Practice standards are maintained.
- Perform personnel management functions, including performance evaluations, personnel development, and time-off scheduling.
- Communicate complex matters effectively to management and support laboratory management in mid- to long-range team goals.
- Drive and manage projects within the group.
- Coach team members in troubleshooting microbiology methods, Environmental Monitoring, aseptic techniques, and equipment.
