About The Position

The Supervisor of Production Planning is responsible for overseeing production planning, scheduling, and material management for a specific manufacturing location within Architectural Metals. This role ensures the efficient coordination of resources to meet customer demands, production capacity, and inventory goals while aligning with Metals-wide processes and strategies. The position reports to the Manager, Production Planning, and works collaboratively with other supervisors across various locations to drive consistency and excellence in production planning operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or related roles in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and production planning tools.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain detailed production plans specific to the assigned location, optimizing resources to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Analyze customer orders, forecasts, and capacity constraints to manage production flow and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Monitor work orders, prioritize tasks, and work directly with production control to resolve scheduling conflicts to meet operational objectives.
  • Collaborate with procurement and inventory teams to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules.
  • Identify and address risks related to material shortages or overstock.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels in alignment with organizational goals and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the local production planning team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and support to ensure team members understand and execute Metals-wide planning processes effectively.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for scheduling issues within the assigned location.
  • Ensure adherence to Metals-wide planning and scheduling standards, working closely with the Manager, Scheduling, and peers at other locations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements at the local level and contribute insights to broader Metals initiatives.
  • Monitor and report key performance metrics related to capacity planning, efficiency, and delivery.
  • Serve as the liaison between local production control, customer service, procurement, and quality teams to align schedules with operational and customer needs.
  • Communicate scheduling changes or delays promptly and proactively address potential disruptions.
  • Share best practices and collaborate with other supervisors and the Manager, Scheduling, to promote consistency across Metals locations.
