About The Position

McGuireWoods is seeking a Practice Assistant Supervisor for its Charlotte office. The Practice Assistant Supervisor ensures that Practice Assistants, Practice Administrative Assistants, and other administrative staff provide the highest level of administrative support and client service to the firm’s attorneys and clients. This role serves as an advocate for staff success and acts as a key resource by proactively identifying and implementing solutions to enhance service and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will bring a strong client-service mindset, along with demonstrated problem-solving abilities, professionalism, confidentiality, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced law firm environment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, along with a minimum of three years of law firm experience.
  • Experience supervising multiple employees.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and processes.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Commitment to delivering an excellent client experience, promoting quality service, and serving as a positive role model.
  • Proven ability to communicate professionally and consistently, while fostering a collaborative, interactive team environment among staff, attorneys, and management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting attorneys in litigation and/or transactional practices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff by interviewing, selecting, and training employees; setting and adjusting pay and work hours; preparing and conducting performance appraisals; coaching and counseling; and assigning and managing workflows.
  • Review and verify electronic time and attendance records for staff, as needed.
  • Coordinate and, when appropriate, conduct new administrative and departmental training.
  • Plan and participate in regular meetings with assigned staff, recommend agenda items, and contribute positively to office-wide staff meetings.
  • Assist proactively with overflow work for practice assistants.
  • Support office operations by assisting with meetings, events, office programs, and other administrative or operational needs.
  • Manage employee relations concerns with direct reports.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for assigned staff.
  • Collaborate with others to enhance staff resources and overall support.
