About The Position

The Supervisor, Patient Nutrition Services supervises Patient Food Service personnel involved in food production, meal service, and related activities for patients. This position ensures meals are prepared and served as planned while maintaining high standards of quality, sanitation, safety, and service. Working under the direction of the Director of Nutrition Services, the Supervisor helps ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, The Joint Commission requirements, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene regulations, HACCP practices, and applicable health department requirements. The position also participates in quality control and performance improvement activities and provides day-to-day oversight of staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a healthcare or other food service environment, including two (2) years of demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Appropriate education may be substituted for up to two years of food service experience.
  • Computer literacy and keyboarding experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and direct frontline staff while managing multiple deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to exchange information and collaborate effectively with staff and managers.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Patient Food Service staff and follow up on daily assignments to ensure work is completed accurately, timely, and according to policy and procedure.
  • Review staffing needs for upcoming shifts and obtain qualified replacements when necessary while following departmental scheduling procedures.
  • Oversee the efficient and timely operation of the patient tray line and related activities; serve as a tray-line checker as needed.
  • Monitor employee compliance with safety, sanitation, HACCP, infection control, and food-handling procedures.
  • Ensure employees have the supplies and equipment needed to perform their responsibilities.
  • Conduct monthly safety, sanitation, and cleaning inspections for assigned areas.
  • Participate in quality control and performance improvement activities.
  • Ensure standardized recipes and established procedures are followed.
  • Safely handle, store, label, and date perishable foods while following FIFO practices.
  • Monitor portion sizes and food waste to support financial performance and departmental budgetary guidelines.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, integrity, stewardship, advocacy, and innovation in accordance with Meritus Health's Code of Conduct and values.
