About The Position

The Supervisor, Parking Enforcement provides day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for Vanderbilt University parking enforcement operations. This position promotes a safe, accessible, equitable, and customer-focused parking environment while ensuring consistent application of University parking policies and regulations. The Supervisor provides direct field supervision, coaching, training, and performance support to Parking Enforcement Officers and other assigned personnel; coordinates daily staff deployment, enforcement activities, special events, vehicle relocations and towing; and responds to operational issues across campus parking facilities. The Supervisor models professionalism, sound judgment, accountability, and a service-oriented approach in interactions with students, faculty, staff, visitors, vendors, and campus partners. The position also supports parking enforcement technology, operational reporting, staff scheduling, equipment readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Relevant experience in parking enforcement, transportation, campus services, customer service, or a related operational environment required.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to provide professional customer service and address difficult or escalated interactions.
  • Ability to organize work, establish priorities, make sound decisions, and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with standard office technology and ability to learn specialized parking and enforcement systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with parking management systems, electronic citation systems, handheld enforcement devices, license plate recognition technology, or similar systems preferred.
  • Experience coordinating special-event parking or traffic operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily parking enforcement activities across University parking lots, garages, streets, and other assigned areas.
  • Assign enforcement areas, work responsibilities, and staff deployment based on operational priorities, staffing levels, events, and campus needs.
  • Ensure University parking regulations are enforced consistently, fairly, accurately, and professionally.
  • Conduct field observations and monitor enforcement activities to ensure compliance with departmental procedures and service expectations.
  • Review enforcement activity and provide guidance regarding parking regulations, citations, vehicle relocations, immobilization, and towing procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight for vehicle relocation and towing operations.
  • Respond to parking-related operational issues, complaints, and escalated situations and determine appropriate action within established policies and procedures.
  • Provide field support during special events, high-volume periods, emergencies, and other University operations as assigned.
  • Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform parking enforcement duties when operational needs require direct field support.
  • Coordinate and deliver field and classroom training for new Parking Enforcement personnel and provide ongoing coaching and refresher training.
  • Inspect parking lots, garages, signage, equipment, and other parking-related infrastructure and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Coordinate installation, removal, and placement of permanent and temporary parking signage as assigned.
  • Support the effective use of parking enforcement technologies, including citation-management systems, handheld devices, radios, license plate recognition technology, and related parking systems, as applicable.
  • Monitor enforcement equipment and coordinate troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, or replacement with internal teams and vendors.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and prepare reports related to enforcement activities, staffing, incidents, equipment, and other performance measures.
  • Review operational information and enforcement trends to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, compliance, customer service, and resource deployment.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to address parking, traffic, event, and operational needs.
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, guidance, and day-to-day leadership to assigned Parking Enforcement personnel and other designated team members.
  • Maintain staff schedules and adjust deployment to provide appropriate operational coverage.
  • Review and approve timekeeping and leave requests in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Monitor employee attendance, productivity, performance, professionalism, and adherence to departmental expectations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide timely coaching, recognition, and corrective guidance as appropriate.
  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and selection of Parking Enforcement personnel.
  • Serve as a point of contact for Parking Services operations in the absence of the manager or as assigned.
