About The Position

Under general direction of nursing leadership, the Clinical Supervisor RN position is responsible for serving as a clinical resource and unit expert for staff. This position links nursing leadership with nursing care through the application of organizational and nursing service policies, procedures, and care delivery model. The Clinical Supervisor RN uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements to guide leadership and practice. The Clinical Supervisor RN attains knowledge and competence reflective of current nursing practice; promotes innovation and futuristic thinking by incorporating evidence-based practice and research findings.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of nursing practices and procedures as normally acquired through 2 years' experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of nursing leadership as normally acquired through working 1 year in a Medical Center or similar setting with involvement in supervision, charge nurse, project implementation, professional development program, shared governance leadership role, or equivalent.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows.
  • Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support
  • RN: Registered Nurse
  • TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt
  • ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support

  • Bachelors degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses acuity as basis for maintaining adequate staffing levels for designated shift and for on-coming shift. Works in collaboration with patient placement to assign appropriate patient placements on designated shift (admissions and transfers).
  • Monitors medical wide activity via reports, rounds, patient acuity, number and type of admissions and other forms of communication.
  • Problem solves, evaluates and decides on course of action and alerts additional resources as needed. Plans, develops, implements and evaluates educational programs for orientation, staff development, and continued growth of all employees within the department. Counsels staff as needed. Responsible for maintaining lines of communication with peers, subordinates, and superiors.
  • Takes an active role in the regular nursing management meetings to influence the direction of nursing service.
  • Actively leads/participates in appropriate meetings.
  • Plans and develops new programs and facility renovation as appropriate.
  • Participates on or leads nursing service committees as appointed by Vice President (VP) Nursing/Division Manager.
  • Participates on medical staff committees as appropriate.
  • Assures compliance with Joint Commission and Michigan Department of Public Health standards and all other regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborates with physicians, all levels of nursing management and other departmental personnel in planning for coordinated services to the patient including but not limited to all inpatient activity, outpatient activity and general oversight of patients, staff and facilities in the absence of the administrative team.
  • All other duties as assigned.
