About The Position

The Supervisor - Mine provides frontline leadership for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of daily underground mining operations. Reporting directly to the Execution General Foreman, the Supervisor converts the approved one-week plan into resource-ready daily shift plans, directs crews during execution, verifies work conditions and results, controls variance within delegated authority, and promptly escalates constraints or changes that could affect committed work. The Supervisor provides shift execution results, immediate operating decisions, safety or workforce escalations, and recovery actions to the Execution General Foreman. The role also provides validated readiness information, field feedback, planning assumptions, and future-plan implications to the Planning General Foreman to maintain planning-to-execution alignment, operational continuity, workforce accountability, and performance against safety, productivity, quality, cost, and reporting expectations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of progressively responsible underground production, development, mine-support, or closely related mining experience.
  • Current certifications or qualifications required by law or site standards for the assigned work scope, including explosives-related qualifications where applicable, or ability to obtain them within the timeframe established by the Company.
  • Leadership and interpersonal ability to set expectations, build accountability, coach employees, manage conflict, and collaborate across crews and functions.
  • Judgment and situational awareness to identify hazards, constraints, errors, and changing conditions; evaluate options; and make or escalate timely decisions.
  • Clear oral, listening, and written communication skills to verify understanding and produce accurate, concise, and traceable records and recommendations.
  • Adaptability and stress tolerance to maintain sound judgment and professional communication during emergencies, disruptions, and competing demands.
  • Knowledge of underground production, development, and mine-support methods, equipment, infrastructure, and work cycles.
  • Knowledge of underground hazards and controls, including ground conditions, ventilation, explosives, mobile equipment, isolation, access, emergency response, and fit-for-duty requirements.
  • Knowledge of MSHA, environmental, training, contractor, incident-reporting, and corrective-action requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in mining, mine engineering, engineering technology, operations management, occupational safety, business with substantial mining-operations experience, or a related field.
  • One or more years in a lead, trainer, relief supervisor, or other frontline leadership capacity, with experience coordinating crews, executing daily or weekly mine plans, allocating labor and equipment, responding to changing conditions, and reviewing safety, production, quality, and shift-reporting results.

Responsibilities

  • Reinforce Group Minimum Standards, critical controls, lifesaving behaviors, standard operating procedures, and approved work methods; immediately stop unsafe work, establish effective controls with the crew, document required follow-up, and escalate recurring or high-consequence deficiencies.
  • Maintain visible field presence each shift by observing pre-shift preparation and work in progress, engaging with crews, reviewing workplace examinations and equipment inspections, verifying safe conditions, and documenting coaching or corrective action for General Foreman follow-up when required.
  • Report incidents and near misses immediately by securing the area, caring for affected employees within training and authority, notifying the Execution General Foreman and required responders, recording known facts in approved systems, preserving evidence, supporting investigations, and completing assigned corrective actions, retraining, and documentation within established timeframes.
  • Confirm each crew member is trained, qualified, and fit for assigned work by reviewing current qualification records, discussing assignments and hazards with employees, and observing readiness before work begins.
  • Provide real-time coaching, recognition, and corrective feedback; document significant discussions and recommend hiring, development, recognition, performance, or succession actions to the General Foreman.
  • Apply attendance, conduct, performance, labor-relations, and Collective Bargaining Agreement requirements consistently; gather and verify facts, discuss expectations with employees, document interactions and the business basis for action, initiate established processes within delegated authority, and consult or escalate to the General Foreman and Human Resources when appropriate.
  • Direct shift execution and maintain plan compliance by comparing actual progress with the shift plan, inspecting active and completed work, correcting quality or productivity issues, and coordinating timely assistance from the General Foreman and affected support functions.
  • Identify constraints, changed conditions, missed work, and break-in work; resolve matters within delegated authority and the shift horizon, or promptly provide the Execution General Foreman with operational impact, available options, resource needs, and recommended priority before commitments are affected.
  • Coordinate work with other Supervisors and affected functions by reviewing shared work areas, interfaces, access, equipment, services, and timing before execution; document owners and completion times, verify commitments during the shift, and escalate unresolved dependencies before they cause downtime, delay, or plan variance.
  • Maintain environmental compliance within the assigned area by integrating applicable procedures, permits, controls, and inspection findings into shift execution and completing assigned corrective actions on schedule.
  • Control shift labor, overtime, contractor use, equipment allocation, materials, tools, and consumables against the approved plan by monitoring actual use, stopping misuse or avoidable expense, and authorizing exceptions only within delegated authority.
  • Validate safety, production, development, quality, workforce, equipment, cost, work-order, and environmental information against source records; correct omissions or inaccuracies before submitting reports through approved systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
