About The Position

The Supervisor of Maintenance supervises and coordinates a maintenance team responsible for the repair, installation, and preventive maintenance of healthcare, academic, and research facilities. Ensures work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable standards, manages work assignments and vendor activities, provides staff guidance and training, and oversees departmental personnel functions including hiring, performance management, and development. Serves as an essential employee during emergencies and performs other duties as assigned. Provides skilled responsible supervision and/or performs the replacement, installation, alteration, adjustment, repair and planned maintenance necessary to maintain reliable and functionally efficient operation of healthcare, academic and complex research facilities.

Requirements

Journeyman Electrician by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required or
First Grade Stationary Engineer License by Houston Permitting Center required or
Journeyman Plumber by Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) required or
Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Certified Technician by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required or
Industrial Millwright Certification by National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) or similar apprentice program or technical trade school for mechanics with a minimum of 1200 classroom hours and 8000 hours of formal on-the-job training and skill attainment in appropriate subjects required or
High School Diploma or equivalent required
5 years of related experience including 5 years of supervisory experience required
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Nice To Haves

Associate's Degree in instrumentation technology issued by an accredited institution preferred
Experience with emphasis in large-scale building maintenance/remodeling preferred

Responsibilities

Directs a maintenance team to ensure that work orders are performed consistent with appropriate preparation, processes, codes, regulations, standards, checklists, safety and reporting procedures.
Monitors the progress of on-going work and provides accurate and meaningful reports.
Stays abreast of details, which may not appear on work orders and maintains good relations with UTHealth departments.
Responds to inquiries from various UTHealth departmental personnel regarding work orders in progress and those yet to be initiated.
Allocates work to subordinates and communicates priorities.
Communicates departmental rules and regulations for conduct, safety, and operation.
Verifies vendor proposals and invoices.
Composes step-by-step instructions for the completion of assignments.
Communicates daily status reports.
Makes decisions for on-the-job craft related/technical decisions as to the allocation of assignments, procedures, processes and guidelines regarding safety, codes and training/modification/discipline.
Submits recommendations for: staffing, material requisitions (including annual inventory), schedules, priorities and changes to policies and procedures.
Provides work direction, assistance, and guidance to personnel within the department.
Required to carry a university communication device as assigned and respond to calls during normal business hours.
Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
