About The Position

The Nevada Department of Corrections is now hiring a Supervisor, IT Business Analyst in Carson City. The incumbent will use their knowledge for agency programs to improve processes, define requirements, and support system development. They analyze workflows, recommend automation opportunities, evaluate software and hardware options, and document data and procedures. Working closely with end-users, management, and technical teams, they gather requirements, conduct analyses, and prepare documentation to support new systems, applications, grants, and any project management related activities. The Analyst will also contribute to budgeting and resource planning, track project progress, and may lead projects by managing scope, timelines, and reporting. They test and implement systems, develop user procedures, create training materials, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Under general direction, they may supervise staff, provide technical guidance, and support long-range planning and policy development that strengthens agency operations. Information Technology (IT) Business Analysts document, analyze, and recommend technical solutions to problems and participate in implementing, supporting, and documenting changes that lead to an improved operating environment.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education.

Responsibilities

  • Apply recognized data processing concepts to business process plans and analyses.
  • Develop work and/or data flow diagrams that illustrate and describe functional processes of the system.
  • Document business and functional requirements for proposed projects.
  • Review and document test results to assess the accuracy and completeness of application code.
  • Monitor quality assurance.
  • Research and evaluate computer hardware and software needs.
  • Analyze business processes, propose improvements, and identify work processes that may be automated.
  • Define potential benefits of proposed systems or deficiencies to be corrected in the existing system.
  • Define and document data definitions and relationships to be used in the foundation of systems development.
  • Develop procedural alternatives in the absence of properly operating software.
  • Consult with stakeholders to determine business function and end-user requirements.
  • Conduct alternative analyses and develop written requirements for proposed systems and applications.
  • Train individuals in the use of the system and system software.
  • Test systems functionality by preparing test plans and participating in quality assurance.
  • Initiate system work requests.
  • Develop bridging specifications to program areas that interact with processes and output.
  • Consult with programmers regarding the technical requirements, logic, and deficiencies of programs.
  • Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations and expenditure decisions.
  • Assist in procedure development, evaluation, preparation, and modification.
  • Develop transition plans.
  • Participate in training development and presentation.
  • Review, analyze, and interpret the effects of federal and State laws, regulations, and agency policies.
  • Write technical requirements for grant proposals.
  • Prepare documentation for the computer system manual.
  • Serve as project leaders and define and manage project scope and objectives.
  • Prepare project justifications, timelines, status reports, and implementation plans.
  • Implement projects.
  • Assist in budget preparation, make purchase requests, and track and record expenditures and costs.
  • Manage project funding and resource allocation.
  • Provide technical guidance to contractors and staff.
  • Responsible for long-range, broad-based planning for a variety of automated programs.
  • Develop policies and procedures.
  • Train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate the performance of employees, and other supervisory duties as appropriate for managing people.
