About The Position

The Supervisor Imaging Service is responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels, developing and maintaining productivity and quality standards, and recommending, developing, implementing, and maintaining Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement programs. This role involves evaluating costs, patient care, and radiation or patient safety. The supervisor acts as a direct line of communication with management, group leaders, technologists, radiologists, and other hospital departments to ensure optimal patient flow and care. They serve as a resource for policies and procedures, monitor room utilization, and provide work direction to technical nursing staff. Additionally, the supervisor establishes and maintains an in-service program for Radiologic Technologists, plans and implements cost-effective technical and system changes, and investigates patient and staff complaints. This role participates in the budget process, manages operating within budgetary allocations, and initiates research, purchase, and implementation of capital acquisitions. The supervisor is responsible for adhering to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the practice of Radiology, as well as Joint Commission (TJC) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) standards. Human resources responsibilities include coaching, performance reviews, and staff morale, with recommendations for hiring, compensation, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations. The supervisor must understand and adhere to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and ensure compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and laws. This position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the life span and assessing patient needs based on age-specific requirements.

Requirements

  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification (CNMT) issued by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer issued by the American Registry for Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Radiation Therapy (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology, or Associate's Degree in Radiation Therapy or related field. or Associate’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in a recognized imaging modality required, with proven technical knowledge of assigned modality, with experience as a lead or senior level staff.
  • Excellent human relations, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Must be able to stand, lift, squat, bend, and twist throughout the majority of the workday.
  • Must wear protective clothing (i.e., lead aprons, isolation gowns, protective eyewear) when necessary.
  • Will be exposed to radiation and film processing chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains proper staffing levels, including the development and maintenance of productivity and quality standards.
  • Recommends, develops, implements, and maintains Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement programs, which include evaluation of costs, patient care, and radiation or patient safety in all areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains a direct line of communication with the Manager, Group Leaders, Technologists, Radiologists, and other hospital departments to assure the optimum in patient flow and patient care.
  • Serves as a resource for interpretation, education and implementation of policies and procedures. Monitors room utilization and provides work direction to technical nursing staff as necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains an extensive in-service program for Radiologic Technologists.
  • Plans, organizes, establishes and maintains technical and system changes and improvements that are cost effective and benefit patient care.
  • Investigates patient, family, physician, nursing, and/or hospital staff complaints and responds to suggestions and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Participates in the budget process and is responsible for operating within budgetary allocations.
  • Initiates, participates, and assists in the research, purchase, and implementation of capital acquisitions. Maintains an adequate supply of operating materials in a cost-effective manner.
  • Responsible for adhering to all federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the technical and clinical practice of Radiology. Responsible for the adherence to all the Joint Commission (TJC) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) standards governing the technical and clinical practice of Radiology.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
