Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years of experience in Operations, OR;
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years of experience in Operations, OR;
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience in Operations
  • Must be available to work on-site at the assigned work location.
  • Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to customers.
  • Ability to travel & report for work at different locations (typically within the Corporation’s service area).
  • Incumbents may use their own vehicle or have access to a Company-provided vehicle.
  • Individuals with access to Company vehicles must possess a valid driver’s (or ‘equipment-appropriate’) license, including any Company-determined certifications or endorsements.
  • Must comply with relevant Company driving / operating standards.
  • Pass Department of Transportation drug screens; subject to random drug testing.
  • Provides leadership through example in a unionized environment, consistent with prevailing collective bargaining agreements.
  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to the open exchange of new ideas, and alternatives to orthodox approaches.
  • Motivates through leading by example, coaching/mentoring and providing ongoing constructive feedback to subordinate staff.
  • Competent in systematically eliciting the best efforts & results from subordinate staff.
  • Deals effectively with resistance; takes positive steps to avoid the recurrence of errors through constructive critique.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Gas Safety Code.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Technical Field.
  • Previous experience leading a represented (union) workforce.
  • Operations experience in Natural Gas or Utility industry.
  • Analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations

Responsibilities

  • Planning and directing employees engaged in the operation, construction, maintenance, workload planning, dispatch, and repair of the gas distribution system.
  • Coordinating operations activities with other areas.
  • Identifying and implementing changes for continuous improvement in performance.
  • Planning, construction, maintenance, repair, and/or operation of gas systems; coordinating construction and maintenance activities with other areas.
  • Supervising technical crews in daily activities and ensuring compliance with Operator Qualification, and Codes & Standards requirements.
  • Planning, scheduling, monitoring, dispatching, and controlling work resources.
  • Utilizing Lean Six Sigma elements or other continuous improvement tools for planning, execution, and follow-through on operations and improvements.
  • Ensuring the consistent application of applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Administering safety programs and ensuring safety standards are compiled within all work activities.
  • Ensuring continuous station productivity improvements through increased quality field time with crews and maintaining work crew productivity levels.
  • Performing core supervisory/management functions including planning, organizing, directing activities, staffing (employee selection, training/coaching & performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting, and budgeting.
