About The Position

This leadership role within the Distribution Engineering Team directs, coordinates, and supervises the daily activities of field engineering designers. Responsibilities include assigning and prioritizing work, addressing customer requests for new service and reliability improvements, and creating detailed construction designs for large distribution construction projects, State highway relocation work, third-party make-ready, and other special projects. The Supervisor reviews and approves work for internal and external customer requests, maintenance, annual, and project work. This role is accountable for direct supervision, coaching, mentoring, safety leadership, and technical guidance to assigned staff to ensure high-quality, timely, and cost-effective solutions that provide customers with safe, reliable, competitively priced, and environmentally sound electric service. The supervisor is responsible for the design decisions of their team and will peer-check their work as appropriate. They will also participate in the project/budget review committee and meetings as required. Strong communication skills and a focus on customer satisfaction are essential. The role involves leading and/or participating in cross-functional teams addressing tri-state initiatives and technical process improvements. The role can be based in Newtown, Stamford, Norwalk, Torrington, or Waterbury, CT.

  • Thorough knowledge of Eversource distribution standards, policies, regulations, engineering specifications, applicable codes, union contracts, Information and Requirements book, procedures, and practices.
  • Provides supervision within the provisions of the agreement between the Company and the local bargaining unit(s).
  • Thorough knowledge of Company software and computer navigation skills.
  • Proficient in computer software skills, such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • A thorough knowledge of company software such as Maximo, Outage Management System (OMS), Outage Management Assessment (OMA), Workday, Workforce, Power Plan, Power Bi, Etc. is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of department programs, policies, procedures, and business plans.
  • Sound judgment, technical insight, and strong initiative to direct others on resolution of complex issues.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by ABET preferred.
  • Previous experience in electric distribution is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role is also preferred.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and AI related tools is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and National Electrical Code.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and/or assist with organizing and prioritizing work group activities, assigning and/or scheduling work duties to meet required completion dates.
  • Work with other departments on cross-functional technical and business teams, working groups, or committees to achieve goals and objectives of the department and company.
  • Responsible for successful completion of field engineering work (i.e., customer-related work, maintenance work, and project work) including preparation of estimates, business policy applications, planning and design, customer contact, and allocation and control of resources.
  • Responsible for the development of cost-effective preliminary and detailed engineering designs and the preparation of work orders and estimates for distribution service/construction projects.
  • Responsible for coaching, directing, and providing technical support related to service/project installations, system priorities, engineering guidelines, and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
  • Responsible for designs that can be safely constructed and operated, for ensuring that safe and environmentally responsible work practices are followed, and empowering teams to take responsibility for themselves, customers, and assets.
  • Collaborate with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Maintain awareness of customer requirements and customer satisfaction; ensuring that plans are designed and implemented on time to the customer and built to company specifications and standards.
  • Analyze workload to ensure availability of resources to facilitate completion of engineering priorities, assignments, and projects; this includes proper coordination of work activities with other departments, outside contractors, customers, etc.
  • Able to work on cross-functional teams to resolve local and system-wide issues.
  • Responsible for assisting with the evaluation and development of new technology, equipment, systems, tools, standards, and procedures.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve and streamline processes.
  • Support regulatory commitments involving local towns, state, and federal regulatory agencies in accordance with current Eversource policies.
  • Respond to requests for engineering/technical assistance on Power Quality, Root Cause Analysis, Financial Planning, Project Management/Development, and other departments.
  • Responsible for the safety of engineering staff, contractors, and members of the public in relation to any project under his/her direction.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, development, and training of field engineering staff, encouraging continuous improvement of performance through teamwork.
  • Assess training needs and help develop training programs and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Have a clear understanding of the Company’s policies and tariff.
  • Responsible for team performance and employee reviews.
  • Select, train, coach, and develop direct reports to build self-motivated and effective teams.
  • Responsible for coordinating Damage Assessment, System Modeling, or other assignments as required in support of storm events.
  • Respond to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs as part of every employee’s role, which may include an Emergency Restoration assignment outside of normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
