About The Position

The Engineering Supervisor in our Minneapolis, MN location directs the work of manufacturing engineers and engineering technicians as well as other technical roles as described in a value stream. The Engineering Supervisor sets engineering milestones and ensures that user needs and requirements are gathered and fully understood. This role is responsible for making sure the team has contingency plans in place to ensure setbacks do not result in manufacturing delays. Works within a defined schedule to identify action items and engineering milestones to keep projects on track. Responsible for the people management, functional competency development, and execution of product development activities. The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to directing and managing NPD or Sustaining activities. Responsible for the skills and capabilities growth of individuals on the team. Responsible for collaboration with other development leads and engineers. This person has engineering responsibilities in addition to the supervising responsibilities. Must adhere to systems and controls to ensure compliance with quality standards and manage the product design end-to-end. The Engineering Supervisor develops strategy for manufacturing operations, including required technology and needed resources. This role is responsible for the development efforts of their team during all phases of program from inception to completion of a commercialized product including launch and post launch follow up. The recommendations from the Engineering Supervisor have a significant impact on the development path of a project. This role requires working within a cross-functional team supporting the development plans for a product. Must be familiar with a wide variety of the design concepts, practices, and procedures and relies on experience and good judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to and takes work direction from the Engineering Manager. Own the success of product and/or development project(s). Team leadership including staffing, roles, and responsibility definitions, and influencing other critical departments in the organization. Utilize strong organizational and milestone tracking skills. Contribute and lead execution of departmental goals and objectives. Establish operating mechanisms to drive collaboration, and decision-making agility. This position requires working onsite in our Plymouth, MN location 7:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, with occasional earlier or weekend hours based on business needs.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in manufacturing environment or similar.
Exposure to project / program management skills required
Must have excellent leadership, interpersonal and influencing skills and have a demonstrated the potential to lead a team of technical resources toward a common goal.
Demonstrated leadership aptitude toward conflict resolution, assertiveness and negotiation skills required.
Demonstrated proficiency in driving continuous improvement for performance, quality, time, and cost; strong planning and organization skills required.
Ability to work in a highly regulated environment.
Demonstrated ability to make sound data driven decisions; Understand, track, drill down and question activities and issues in all functional area.
Strong attention to detail, follow-through skills
Sets the standard for timeliness, work ethic, and personal integrity
Must have basic project management skills and the ability to manage multiple inputs and project tasks.
Must have excellent written communication skills – reports, presentations.

Nice To Haves

Masters in an engineering discipline, MBA.
Experience in more than one of the following functional areas: Operations, Supply Chain, Quality.
Six Sigma Experience.
Experience in LEAN Methodologies.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Responsibilities

Directs the work of Manufacturing Engineers and Engineering Technicians within their team.
Facilitates communication and interaction among core team members to ensure transparency of critical deliverables and milestones in the NPD / Sustaining process.
Ensures technical plans are developed and executed within expectations of project deliverables.
Actively contributes to projects in development by completing engineering tasks and having engineering responsibilities such as documentation and design activities.
Contributes to continuous improvement ideas to better the department.
Works with direct reports on training and development plans.
Identifies opportunities related to strategy and scope within manufacturing value streams.
