Our mission is clear: to be the partner of choice in utility construction by driving excellence in everything we do.   As part of Aecon’s Utilities sector, the Aecon Utility Engineer (AUE) team plays a pivotal role in supporting construction through in-house engineering expertise. AUE is dedicated to enhancing project outcomes by integrating value-added quality management assurance programs that meet and exceed client expectations.   Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Electrical Design Supervisor will be responsible for all facets of design for our existing and prospective Utility clients. This role will oversee a team of designers and junior engineers, ensuring quality, consistency, and on-time delivery of design packages.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience with hydro design
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent) or College Diploma.
  • Detailed experience in engineering design, permitting, and processes
  • Specific technical experience with utility services construction preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, delegate effectively, and oversee the delivery of high-quality design outputs
  • Strong computer skills required – experience with AutoCAD software and Microstation an asset
  • Proven ability to take initiative and leadership
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to travel for projects

Nice To Haves

  • Registration as an E.I.T. with the P.E.O is an asset
  • Experience in engineering consulting shall be considered an asset
  • Experience with project management shall be considered an asset
  • Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred; demonstrated ability to manage and mentor technical staff is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Aecon’s Policy & Procedures Manual
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, mentorship, and direction to a team of designers, technicians, and junior engineers
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor design workload to ensure efficient workflow and meet project deadlines
  • Provide design training and guidance to junior staff along with the Project Engineer
  • Complete or review design calculations and drawings that satisfy all applicable code and regulatory requirements
  • Assist in the preparation of schedules, estimates, and construction packages
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key clients
  • Strong presentation skills, both written and oral, are considered a requirement
  • Strong computer skills required – experience with AutoCAD software, MicroStation, and 3-D software an asset
  • Conduct performance feedback, support professional development, and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the design team
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance and quality control standards across all design deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including construction, engineering, and project management, to ensure design alignment with project goals
