This position serves as a staff engineer performing engineering assignment of intermediate complexity. Under direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Area Lead Engineer, analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of intermediate complexity in accordance with project requirements.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
5+ years of related work experience for Electrical Design Engineer
10+ years of related work experience for Sr. Electrical Design Engineer
15+ years of experience for Principal Electrical Design Engineer.
Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes (including DOE orders)
Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Experience providing EPC services on large industrial projects.
3D modeling and 2D CADD experience.
Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening in accordance with Federal requirements
Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.

Nice To Haves

Professional Engineer license.
Practical field experience
EPC project experience for the following industries: U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency, Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program, Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation
Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD
Proficiency with Intergraph SPI
Knowledge of: Electrical codes and standards, Electrical power systems, Electrical power systems software (e.g., SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), Electrical Transient and Analysis Program (ETAP))

Responsibilities

Develop and review specifications and design criteria
Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment and systems; and solve technical problems of intermediate complexity
Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients
Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures
Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselines
Establish, control, and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor submittments
Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes
Create and modify electrical design drawings (e.g., single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagram layouts, raceway, lighting, and grounding)
Perform complex system studies (e.g., short circuit, load flow, stability, motor starting, harmonics, relay coordination and ground grid)
Develop area classifications and design documents
Perform electrical calculations such as short circuit, relay coordination, voltage drop, cable de-rating, and cable pulling tension
Prepare motor schematics and wiring diagrams
