About The Position

The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and coordination of daily operations of the Durable Medical Equipment areas. This position is expected to optimize DME operations across multiple physician practice sites in a compliant manner, while enhancing the patient experience in the practices. Duties include supervising DME technicians, managing inventory, expense control, procurement of product, proper product fitting and adjustment, patient education, overseeing pre-certification and authorization of products, denial management and point-of-service collections oversight.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • At least 4 years’ experience working in a previous healthcare setting (required)
  • Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires lifting patients and may require lifting and carrying items weighing over 50 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions.
  • Requires exposure to communicable diseases common to a hospital or physician practice environment.
  • Exhibit technical competency of products
  • Display excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy knowledge
  • Understanding of medical billing and insurance requirements
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid SC Drivers License
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Work independently, use good judgment and have good decision making skills.

  • Licensed or NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer (preferred)
  • BA/BS degree or MA/MS degree (preferred)
  • Experience with the application of durable medical equipment (DME) (preferred)
  • Previous supervisory experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide education to patients on the application, use, care and expected outcome for products as indicated by the physician instructions and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Educate patient on insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collections.
  • Perform patient scheduling for custom products, education, order processing, delivery and call backs.
  • Ensure that all necessary documentation is obtained as it relates to payer requirements, standard operating procedures and compliance guidelines.
  • Review denial report and develop action plans to minimize denials.
  • Assist in monitoring reimbursement to ensure contract compliance.
  • Monitor DME fee schedules in practice management system and EMR.
  • Assist in implementation and oversight of inventory management system across all billing locations.
  • Oversee inventory par levels for all sites.
  • Oversee DME purchases, monitor inventory, ensure products are available to meet physician demand and minimize product shrinkage.
  • Recommend additional products and services based on cost/reimbursement research.
  • Create policies and procedures to ensure program optimization and compliance.
  • Develop and implement patient payment policies and procedures.
  • Work with physicians to develop protocols and optimize product flow.
  • Work with Materials Department to obtain new products, as needed.
  • Supervise and oversee work of technicians that work for DME program.
