About The Position

The Distribution Center Supervisor - Casegoods Receiving oversees all receiving operations for casegoods products on the 1st shift, ensuring timely and accurate receipt of inbound shipments while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity. This frontline leadership role plans and coordinates receiving activities, manages a team of warehouse associates, and ensures proper documentation, inspection, and put away of all casegoods inventory. The Supervisor drives operational efficiency through data-driven decisions, continuous improvement initiatives, and effective team development while partnering with transportation, inventory, and warehouse teams to optimize the flow of goods into the distribution center.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in distribution center, warehouse, or receiving operations
  • Strong understanding of receiving processes including unloading, inspection, documentation, and putaway
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory management principles
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills with ability to motivate and develop employees
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Understanding of OSHA safety regulations and warehouse safety best practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions quickly
  • Physical ability to walk distribution center floors, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
  • Ability to work 1st shift hours and flexible schedule as operational needs require

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field
  • 3-5 years of receiving or inbound operations supervisory experience in furniture, retail, or distribution
  • Experience with SAP, Manhattan, or similar enterprise warehouse management systems
  • Knowledge of casegoods furniture products and handling requirements
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)
  • Experience with labor management systems (LMS) and engineered labor standards
  • Background in process improvement methodologies including Kaizen and 5S
  • Understanding of transportation operations and carrier management
  • Experience with quality inspection processes and damage documentation
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) to support diverse workforce

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all casegoods receiving operations on 1st shift including unloading, inspection, documentation, and putaway activities
  • Plan and coordinate daily receiving schedules to align with inbound shipment arrivals and warehouse capacity
  • Monitor receiving productivity and ensure team meets or exceeds performance targets for cases received per hour
  • Ensure accurate receipt of all inbound shipments including verification of quantities, product conditions, and order documentation
  • Coordinate with transportation teams on carrier scheduling, dock assignments, and trailer movements
  • Manage dock door assignments and optimize trailer flow to minimize wait times and maximize throughput
  • Monitor receiving workflow and adjust resources to address bottlenecks or capacity constraints
  • Ensure all received casegoods are inspected for damage, defects, and compliance with quality standards
  • Verify inbound shipments against purchase orders, advanced shipping notices (ASN), and bill of lading documentation
  • Process discrepancies including shortages, overages, damages, and quality issues through appropriate systems
  • Generate quality alerts and coordinate with quality assurance teams on product issues
  • Ensure proper labeling, identification, and documentation of all received inventory
  • Maintain receiving accuracy targets and implement controls to prevent errors
  • Lead, train, and develop a team of receiving associates to build technical skills and operational excellence
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, feedback, and developmental guidance
  • Make employment decisions and recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations
  • Foster a positive team environment focused on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Manage staffing levels and coordinate breaks, lunches, and coverage to maintain productivity
  • Communicate company and departmental goals through daily huddles, team meetings, and one-on-one coaching sessions
  • Champion all safety programs and ensure a safe work environment for all receiving associates
  • Conduct safety walks, audits, and inspections within the receiving area
  • Ensure employees wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and follow safety compliance protocols
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, document findings, and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and receiving standard operating procedures
  • Promote safe operation of material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and dock equipment
  • Ensure accurate and timely receipt transactions in the warehouse management system (WMS)
  • Partner with inventory leadership to discuss receiving gaps, discrepancies, and system accuracy
  • Coordinate putaway activities to ensure received inventory is properly stored in designated locations
  • Monitor inventory location accuracy and implement controls to prevent misplacement
  • Support cycle counting and physical inventory activities within the receiving area
  • Monitor individual and team performance against productivity standards (cases per hour, accuracy, safety)
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide feedback to drive continuous improvement
  • Lead process improvement events such as Kaizens to enhance receiving efficiency and reduce waste
  • Implement best practices and standardized work procedures to optimize receiving operations
  • Analyze data to identify trends, root causes of issues, and improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system upgrades, process changes, and operational initiatives
  • Manage resources to optimize equipment, dock doors, employees, methods, and materials
  • Ensure receiving equipment is well-maintained and in proper working condition
  • Coordinate with maintenance on equipment repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Control operational costs while maintaining productivity and service quality
