About The Position

Provides diagnostic and supportive procedures within the Diagnostic Neurology. Acts as an active member of the management team to support the overall operation of the center and Neuroscience Service Line, and to ensure compliance with hospital policies, legal regulations, and Neuroscience Service Line standards of care. Acts as liaison to physicians and other members of the health care team. Assists the Director in coordinating patient flow, updating policies and procedures and instructing personnel. Supervises Neurophysiology Technologists in all locations including, but not limited to, EMU, Out-patient Lab, Regional locations.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a two year accredited electroneurodiagnostic program required or Bachelor's Degree in Neurodiagnostics or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with demonstrated knowledge of general department policies and procedures and proficiency in performing complex neurophysiology techniques required
  • Must be a Registered Technologist in at least one modality (EEG, EP, or CLTM) through the American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET). Certification is strongly preferred at the time of hire but required within 12 months of transitioning into the supervisor role.
  • Analytical ability to recognize technical problems with equipment and respond accordingly.
  • Interpersonal skills and social sensitivity to calm patient’s apprehension and explain procedures.
  • High degree of patience for successful testing of often uncooperative subjects.
  • Ability to handle long periods of intense concentration while performing tracings.
  • Ability to assemble complex equipment and perform fine motor skills.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
  • + one of the following: - N/A CLTM Certification for Long-Term Monitoring - American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists preferred EEG Electroencephalographic (R. Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostics including; Electroencephalograms, continuous monitoring, evoked potentials, electromyography/nerve conductions intraoperative monitoring, Long Term Monitoring and all procedures for epilepsy surgical work up to include electrocorticography, Wada’s, intracranial grid/strip monitoring.
  • Essential functions of Neurophysiology Technologists.
  • Demonstrates competency in performance of all neuro testing and Serves as the primary clinical resource to neurophysiology staff members.
  • Provides resource support to staff related to department responsibilities and operations as well as computer systems and procedures.
  • Oversees clinical care delivery and ensures all neuro monitoring needs are met and run smoothly across the Neuroscience Service Line.
  • Identifies when issues affect clinical care.
  • Collaborates with all hospital departments and interdisciplinary teams to assure delivery of neuro monitoring service and quality care to the patient and family.
  • Keeps Director informed of unusual patient or employee situations, patient safety events, changes in staffing requirements, recognition or corrective actions with appropriate documentation, or operational problems within the department
  • Contributes to developing and attaining long range objectives for Neuroscience Service Line including, but not limited to: financial goals, operations improvement, quality improvement, resource utilization and clinical practice enhancements.
  • Creates procedures for monitoring quality and integrity of Neurophysiology procedures; monitors findings and identifies individual areas for improvement based on data; makes recommendations for change as necessary and acts as a change agent for process improvement.
  • Provides monthly quality improvement feedback to staff.
  • Oversees staff orientation process and supports neurophysiology technologist educational activities.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Neuroscience leadership team regarding staff development needs, including identifying and prioritizing formal education needs across Neurosciences.
  • Promotes staff development and growth.
  • Writes and maintains staff competencies with clinical input from the neurophysiology team.
  • Independently acts as a patient care advocate by investigating and resolving concerns raised by staff, patient or family members.
  • Fosters an environment conducive to positive patient/family interactions and assures that service standards are met or exceeded.
  • Functions as an active member of the unit leadership team, assisting in making service line decisions.
  • Participates in communicating and explaining leadership decisions to the staff.
  • Establishes policies and procedures on an ongoing basis; assures compliance with policies and procedures; answers inquires relative to department functions.
