About The Position

The Supervisor Community Safety Ambassador exists to ensure the effective delivery of the Community Safety Ambassador program by leading, supporting, and coordinating the work of frontline ambassadors. The position provides oversight of daily operations, ensuring patrol coverage, professional standards, and high-quality community engagement. The Supervisor serves as the bridge between ambassadors, city partners, and community stakeholders, helping resolve escalated safety concerns, maintain accurate reporting, and reinforce training and service standards. The mission of the role is to strengthen public safety and community trust by guiding ambassadors in creating a safe, welcoming, and responsive environment across designated corridors. This position is temporary for 2026 and will become a permanent position in 2027. The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in a field related to the work of the position or two years post high school training or equivalent.
  • Two years of relevant experience, including supervisory or leadership experience.
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Narcan Administration
  • Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of Community Safety Ambassadors, ensuring consistent patrol coverage, professionalism, and adherence to protocols. Provide direction, assign zones, and monitor team performance.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to ambassadors in conflict resolution, engagement strategies, and reporting standards. Mentor staff to build skills and professional growth.
  • Support staff in handling complex or high-risk incidents. Respond directly to situations requiring supervisory judgment, de-escalation, or coordination with law enforcement/emergency responders.
  • Ensure accurate completion of daily activity logs, incident reports, and service documentation. Review submissions for accuracy and quality and serve as a liaison to community groups.
  • Act as point of contact with law enforcement, social services, violence interrupters, and city staff. Attend coordination meetings and share ambassador observations.
  • Ensure all ambassadors complete required training (de-escalation, CPR/First Aid, Narcan, cultural competency, etc.). Track certifications and schedule refresher courses.
  • Oversee dispatch calls, ensuring appropriate response by ambassadors. Manage workload distribution, adjusting staffing to cover peak times or special events.
  • Monitor performance metrics, evaluate service effectiveness, and recommend improvements. Identify trends in safety concerns and propose solutions.
  • Handle scheduling, timekeeping, and basic HR tasks (attendance, evaluations, performance feedback). Report staffing needs to contractor or city leadership.
