This position is responsible for and provides overall supervision of assigned ancillary service area(s), which may include safety, environmental services, laundry, maintenance, infection control, and emergency preparedness. The role involves providing leadership and interacting with health system departments, medical staff, patients/residents, and families. Key duties include planning, organizing, and coordinating specialized programs in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The supervisor will develop and maintain staff education, create safety and security standard operating procedures, and adhere to all applicable guidelines for the service area. They are expected to serve on departmental/organization committees and task forces, and stay current with safety codes and facility-related regulations. The role requires demonstrating leadership, serving as a role model, and encouraging vision and change projects. Responsibilities also include assisting in hiring, selection, retention, and leveraging talent, providing feedback on employee performance, and aiding in the training and development of staff. The supervisor must practice positive collaboration, convert difficult interactions into productive ones, and ensure all assigned areas meet regulatory requirements. Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques is essential to meet organizational quality goals. Maintaining current certifications in the specialty and continuing education is also required. The supervisor may be asked to assist with other projects or work assignments as needed by the facility, department, or leadership.
