This role supervises nursing home staff and nursing activities, including resident care and record-keeping. The position assists in managing the nursing staff assigned to a particular shift within the nursing home and takes action regarding the provision of resources within the context of shifts or a designated time frame. The Supervisor assigns residents to available nursing staff, considering the resident's condition and the employee's skill level. The role monitors resident care areas and other nursing home facilities for cleanliness and readiness. Depending on staffing needs, the Supervisor may fill in for clinical support staff, act as a point of contact for technical training and troubleshooting, and utilize the nursing process to provide individualized care. Responsibilities include personal care management, medication administration, care planning, scheduling physician visits, setting up appointments, and collaborating with clients, families, home health services, and county and state offices to ensure client needs are met. The role also assists with human resources administrative processing, budget information preparation, and new staff training and orientation. Knowledge of clinical practices, strategic planning, administrative, and financial principles, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, are essential. The Supervisor must recognize problems, recommend solutions, react calmly in emergencies, and interpret/adapt guidelines. Accountability includes following up with risk management and training clinical staff, and knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. The position participates in reviewing clinical performance assessment results, recommends process improvements, and implements established performance improvement policies, training employees on these policies. The Supervisor functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure, adhering to the American Nurses Association's Scope and Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for Nurses.
