About The Position

Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Adult Day Center – Santa Monica. The Supervisor develops and facilitates programming activities within the Adult Day Center that further promote cross-cultural appreciation, cognitive stimulation, including literature, music, and art appreciation. The Supervisor supervises the activity leaders and all volunteers associated with the program, including nutrition volunteers, and leads activities, assisting clients in engaging and participating to improve clients’ quality of life. The Supervisor acts as the lead in the Director's absence, including new client onboarding.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with older adults, adults with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, disabled, or other at-risk populations
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in delivering enrichment programs and/or performance-related activities
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience supervising or mentoring staff
  • Basic understanding of problems associated with the impaired older adult, including memory loss, physical needs, assisting with transfers, and dealing with difficult behaviors
  • Ability to exhibit enthusiasm, sensitivity, kindness, creativity, and flexibility, with commitment to teamwork
  • Ability to motivate clients to participate in activities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and anticipate the needs of clients.
  • Leadership skills to independently implement enrichment program/activity
  • Strong supervisory skills
  • Strong communication/ relationship skills along with good judgment.
  • Ability to independently plan, prepare, and carry out assignments.
  • Must obtain upon hire and maintain a CPR and First Aid card and a Food Handlers Certificate.
  • Must complete Health Screening Report within 7 days of hire (proof of TB clearance as required by the State).
  • Fingerprinting background report must be approved upon hire.
  • Must be able to maneuver up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in the arts, social work, human services, or a related field preferred.
  • A Certificate in Gerontology or a related field is preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Vocational Nurse preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Adult Day Center & Nutrition Services, including oversight of client safety and well-being and regulatory compliance with state and county regulations.
  • Supervise Activity Leaders, volunteers, and interns. Provide performance feedback and reviews.
  • Research, prepare, schedule/implement and lead enrichment programming activities under the guidance of Director and Master Trainer.
  • Work with the Master Trainer and ADC Director to plan weekly programs and create and maintain a calendar of offerings in the arts, music, and literature.
  • Promote sign-ups and encourage participation in WISE Minds, Somos Amigos, and Standard ADC by conducting outreach and/or presentations as appropriate (community events).
  • Monitor participants’ feedback and level of participation to determine any changes and/or additions to programs.
  • Recruit and/or train volunteer instructors and/or staff to augment enrichment offerings.
  • Properly organize and store client medications for self-administration: document and audit medication receipt, dispersal, and destruction as appropriate.
  • Open/Close building as needed.
  • Ensure the safe departure of clients who are not promptly picked up.
  • Maintain the kitchen and report problems promptly, order meals and program supplies, and maintain records.
  • Manage infection control, cleanliness, and safety of clients, staff, and program rooms.
  • Develop a written care plan with measurable outcomes, implement an agreed-upon action plan for client needs, and maintain records.
  • Write accurate, thorough, and specific client assessments, letters, emails, and other communication.
  • Complete timely, accurate, and thorough documentation for client files.
  • Respond to emergencies by calling 911 and contacting families as needed.
  • Lead classes and/or sessions as needed.
  • Provide backup care as needed.
  • Document and assist with writing and submitting incident reports to Community Care Licensing (CCL) as assigned by supervisor.
  • Train ADC Activity Leaders and others in delivering programs, including serving as a backup to ADC Activity Leaders as needed.
