About The Position

The City of Fresno is seeking a Supervising Plans Examiner to join their team. This is the first-line supervisory level in the plans examiner series. Incumbents will supervise staff engaged in enforcing codes, ordinances, and regulations related to fire, life and health safety, accessibility standards, and structural elements of construction for building projects within the City of Fresno. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period for up to a maximum of two (2) years at the City’s discretion. The competitive process may result in a shorter eligibility list duration if suspended.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years experience equivalent to that gained as a Plans Examiner III with the City of Fresno.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or a related field; AND two (2) years of progressively responsible lead experience which includes assigning, reviewing and coordinating work of subordinate staff, in one or more of the following areas: architecture, engineering, construction, code enforcement, permit or plan review, inspection or a related field.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
  • Successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Incumbents must acquire certification from a nationally recognized agency as a "Building Inspector," or "Plans Examiner" during the first two years of employment and maintain the required certificate for the entire term of employment in this job classification.
