About The Position

This is a Department Promotional Examination open to eligible employees of the Kern County Fire Department who have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report. The examination process includes an Oral Exam (Weight 100%) to assess training, education, interest, and personal fitness for the position. If there are insufficient candidates, the Human Resources Division may conduct an appraisal of application materials. Applicants must achieve at least a 70% score on each examination phase. Examination components for promotional testing will be administered on scheduled dates/times/locations without exception. This examination will establish an eligible list for immediate appointments at the Kern County Fire Department, with other permanent and temporary appointments made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for twelve months, unless otherwise specified by the Civil Service Commission. Requirements

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a dispatcher in a public safety agency.
  • Possession of a valid certificate as a National Certified Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD).
  • Licensure as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher II (EMD) issued by Kern County Emergency Medical Services Department.
  • Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
  • Valid government issued photograph identification is required for admittance to the examination.
  • Successful candidates will be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
