About The Position

Manages wastewater collections operations for multiple plants. Leads team of supervisors in the achievement of system goals. Manages budgets, negotiates purchase orders with vendors, and oversees ongoing improvement projects. Responds to customer concerns.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of TCEQ regulations and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software, such as GIS.

  • Thirty (30) college hours from an accredited college or university
  • At least nine (9) years of experience in supervision of wastewater collection or water/wastewater treatment plant operations of which at least two (2) years of experience was supervising personnel
  • Council of Higher Education Accreditation (C.H.E.A.)
  • Valid Texas Driver License.
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewater Collection Systems Operator II License must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
  • Must be able to function in a principle-based organization that has a culture built on character and core values.

Nice To Haves

  • If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Continued employment is contingent on successfully obtaining required certification(s) and/or license(s) within the specified period of time indicated above from time of hire.
  • As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
  • Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
  • Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Makes hiring and termination decisions; prioritizes assignments and directs work; develops and oversees employee work schedules and approves time away from work; provides and/or facilitates employee training and development; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; determines or makes recommendations regarding new hire salaries and salary changes; and acts as liaison between employees and management.
  • Manages division operations, including work orders, purchasing, requisitions, and payroll.
  • Plans and organizes preventive maintenance of sewer lines and lift stations.
  • Responds to customer concerns.
  • Supervise field operations.
  • Performs related work as required.
