About The Position

Austin Commercial is seeking a healthcare Superintendent for their Houston, TX division. This role provides overall direction and control of the day-to-day field construction activities on assigned job sites. Depending on project size, this position may lead a project or oversee a portion of a larger project. Austin Commercial is a leader in the commercial construction industry with over 100 years of experience, delivering construction management services for various landmark projects including aviation, healthcare, corporate/office, hospitality, higher education, sports/themed entertainment, and semiconductor/fabrication plants. Requirements

  • B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or relevant discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education (High School diploma) and experience.
  • Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment).
  • 6+ years of commercial construction field experience, including direct supervisory experience.
  • Proficient with reading plans and specs.
  • Ability to build and manage high performing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead the day-to-day field construction activities on assigned jobsite.
  • Be in charge of the overall safety at a jobsite, including the implementation of safety plans and procedures.
  • Review record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schedule to determine project scope, materials, manpower, and equipment needs.
  • Plan the physical layout of the jobsite effectively, initiate startup activities, and prepare for site security, office trailers, and utility hookups.
  • Designate areas for cranes, hoists, material storage, and parking.
  • Direct field engineers in the survey and layout of the jobsite, ensuring dimensional control and elevations are correct.
  • Plan daily and weekly activities for each craft, providing detailed schedule forecasts and technical instructions to foremen.
  • Resolve ambiguities in plans and drawings before construction begins.
  • Establish procedures for ordering self-performed building materials, supplies, and small tools.
  • Inspect all field construction work in progress, ensuring high-quality workmanship and promptly addressing deficiencies.
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance in resolving construction problems, investigating alternative work methods and materials.
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, and consulting firms to resolve problems.
  • Assist the project manager in evaluating schedule and cost impacts.
  • Assist the project manager in developing the manpower projection chart and monitor weekly labor costs.
  • Investigate reasons for delays in the construction schedule and adjust resources as necessary.
  • Assist the project manager in developing the equipment projection chart and monitor equipment use, maintenance, and cost.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes related to construction activities.
  • Manage scheduling of all governmental inspections necessary for a certificate of occupancy.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the health and safety of employees.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with owners, architects, consulting firms, and other parties with financial interest.
  • Foster and promote the training and development of subordinates.
  • Assume a leadership role in the career planning and development of project staff.
  • Perform tasks associated with project completion, including close-out punch lists, demobilization, and as-built documents.
  • Maintain a detailed and accurate daily report of all field construction activities.
  • Administer the company's Safety & Health Manual.
