About The Position

The Concrete Superintendent is accountable for planning and executing multiple concurrent concrete operations, ensuring work is delivered safely, on spec, on schedule, and without rework. This role is ideal for a superintendent who takes pride in craftsmanship and has led concrete scopes at scale.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in concrete construction within heavy civil or municipal environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario concrete specifications and testing requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead high volume, self performed concrete operations.
  • Strong safety mindset, people leadership, and financial awareness.
  • Comfortable working in a non union environment alongside unionized partners.
  • Clear communicator with strong planning and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • AFP / P3 or Design Build experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead self-performed concrete scopes including curb & gutter, sidewalks, barriers, slabs, foundations, and associated works.
  • Plan and supervise multiple crews across concurrent sites with varying production volumes.
  • Coordinate forming, reinforcement, placement, finishing, curing, stripping, and protection.
  • Lead detailed pre‑pour planning covering sequencing, access, embeds, reinforcement, mix requirements, testing, weather planning, and finishing strategy.
  • Ensure readiness before placement—base prep, forms, reinforcement, inspections, and logistics.
  • Drive a right‑first‑time culture to eliminate rework and protect margin.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial, municipal, and regional concrete specifications, including testing and finish tolerances.
  • Coordinate with inspectors and testing agencies to meet QA/QC requirements.
  • Address deficiencies immediately and document corrective actions.
  • Lead concrete specific safety planning (pump operations, line of fire, silica, hot/cold weather pours).
  • Champion responsible for washout, waste reduction, and efficient logistics.
  • Actively manage concrete cost drivers including labour productivity, formwork cycles, standby, redispatch, and waste.
  • Track production rates and support accurate forecasting and schedule recovery.
  • Align pour schedules with overall project milestones.
  • Lead and develop forepersons, finishers, and crews in a non‑union environment.
  • Work in close partnership with Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
  • Secure internal resources across GIP’s vertically integrated platform.
  • Present plans, progress, and risks clearly to clients, consultants, and municipal inspectors.
