About The Position

This is an existing vacancy for two (2) full-time contract Summer Youth Wellness Program Assistant (SYWPA) positions. The SWYPA will assist in the planning and delivery of summer programming at the Toronto East Youth Wellness Hub or Scarborough Youth Wellness Hub. There is one contract SWYPA position available for each Wellness Hub (Toronto East and Scarborough). Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO) is an initiative that aims to bring the right services to youth (and their families) at the right time and in the right place. We provide youth aged 12 – 25 years with a range of services to address needs related to mental health, substance use, primary care, education, employment, housing, and other social services. We aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where youth can access support, connect with peers, and engage in activities that promote wellness. As funding for this role has partially been provided by the Canada Summer Jobs program the following eligibility requirements must be met by the successful participant (candidate): Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the employment; Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred. International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a social work or related field, (Child and Youth Care, Youth Justice, Psychotherapy) post-secondary program
  • Knowledge of how to use computer programs (e.g. publisher, excel, power point)
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with staff, students and volunteers
  • Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/ anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.
  • Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the employment

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of summer programming at Toronto East Youth Wellness Hub and Scarborough Youth Wellness Hub
  • Facilitate wellness workshops and recreational activities
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and deliver outreach and engagement strategies for increased youth participation
  • Create and distribute promotional materials for events and activities
  • Assist with administrative duties, including data entry in client information systems(s)
  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming space for all youth participants
  • Support program evaluation by gathering feedback and assisting in compiling reports
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Actively contribute to inclusive Hub culture, overall functioning and success of the summer programs
  • Foster positive relationships with youth through a supportive mentorship role
  • Other duties as assigned appropriate to the scope of the position.
