About The Position

This is a summer internship offered by the Red Cliff Treaty Natural Resources Division. The goal of this internship is to provide exposure to a wide variety of fish and wildlife projects so participants may gain a better understanding of Natural Resource careers. Some portion of the summer will involve working with other local resource agencies as well. Interns must be 13-19 years old to apply. The internship is expected to be June 22nd – August 7th, typically working four (4) 7-hr days per week.

Requirements

  • Must be between the ages of 13-19
  • Native American applicants only
  • Must be able to be on your feet all day, walk on uneven terrain, and lift over 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Please state whether you have a valid driver’s license in your application (not required).

Responsibilities

  • Learn hatchery duties, marking and sampling techniques.
  • Be involved with farm operations at Red Cliff Community Farm.
  • Participate in ride-along with Red Cliff and DNR Wardens on Lake Superior grid patrol checks.
  • Assist with fish sampling aboard Red Cliff research vessel during assessments.
  • Learn techniques to control invasive species.
  • Shadow Environmental staff during routine stream sampling.
  • Choose an individual research project to design and complete with a staff mentor.
  • Document summer activities using video and photography equipment (must be willing to be photographed).
  • Complete daily journal activities.
  • Give a presentation to Tribal Council as a capstone project at the conclusion of the field season.
