About The Position

This is a summer student job opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Worker position within the Planning & Infrastructure department at Sagamok Anishnawbek. The role involves the maintenance, repair, and alteration of Sagamok Anishnawbek-owned buildings, parks, recreational areas, and water distribution system. The position supports the goal of providing quality management by striving to improve operations, streamline work processes, and cooperate with other departments to serve the membership. This is a 4-week placement during July, with 3 positions available.

Requirements

Must demonstrate enrollment as a full-time student in the previous academic semester school and be returning full time in the fall of 2026/2027 Academic school year.
Must be eligible for Sagamok Anishnawbek ISETP program funding (member of Sagamok, valid SIN #).
Must have, or be willing to obtain, First Aid, WHIMIS, & Health and Safety in 4 Steps.
Highschool or Post Secondary Student.

Nice To Haves

Preference will be given to students who qualify for the ISET Subsidy Program.

Responsibilities

Attend and participate in regular P&IU team meetings.
Participate in community development meetings and training sessions and ISO activities as required.
Alert the Community Infrastructure Manager of problems in a timely fashion so that appropriate action can be taken.
Participate in various associations and organizations to learn new practices and trends, to remain informed of current affairs and issues affecting the community infrastructure program and to enhance personal growth.
Participate in health and safety training on a regular basis (WHMIS, confined space, transportation of Dangerous Goods, CPR and First Aid).
Perform general maintenance and repair work on Band-owned buildings such as painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, concrete/masonry, lock smith, metal work.
Maintain the buildings heating and air conditioning system.
Perform routine equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
Perform grounds maintenance such as picking up litter, mowing, planting, and cutting weeds, brushes and trees when necessary.
Maintain and repair various types of park and playground equipment and facilities.
Perform grounds maintenance such as picking up litter, mowing, planting, fertilizing, and cutting brushes and trees in parks and recreation areas.
Maintain ball fields by repairing and maintaining fences, markings, bleachers, and cleaning restrooms.
Prepare park facilities for special events.
Install park and recreation equipment.
