About The Position

Under immediate supervision of the Office Coordinator of the Aleshire Center. Summer student employees are student leaders who work in the Aleshire Center office supporting full-time professional staff in various day-to-day responsibilities. They are expected to show initiative, complete work with autonomy and understand and articulate the mission and vision of the Aleshire Center clearly. They will interact with incoming students and guests in a variety of situations.

Requirements

  • Must be a current Washburn University student familiar with the current Aleshire Center programs.
  • Willing to learn about the Aleshire Center's curricular and co-curricular programs, and projected activities of the Aleshire Center.
  • Comfortable talking with students about the Aleshire Center in a tabling or information setting.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with Microsoft 365, Canva, and other software programs.
  • Familiar with social media platforms and able to post information using Aleshire Center accounts.
  • Must be available approximately 10 - 12 hours a week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to the full-time professional staff.
  • Receive, input, edit, and maintain detailed records of student information, interests and involvement collected through recruitment effort.
  • Ability to delegate, manage students, and time as necessary.
  • Serves as the student point-person for student recruitment and prospective student engagement.
  • Garner enthusiasm for the Aleshire Center for Leadership and Community Engagement with incoming students.
  • Oversee social media presence, primarily on Instagram, to engage incoming and current students.
  • Coordinate and train students to table at New Student Orientations Engagement Fairs and other incoming student programs.
  • Display a constant knowledge of programs within the Aleshire Center, including Bonner Leaders, co-curricular programming, Leadership Studies & Community Studies Minor, etc.
  • Proofread, organize, and complete mailings to prospective students and community partners.
  • Flexibility to complete other tasks as required by the Aleshire Center staff.
  • Ability to fill the role of receptionist in the absence of professional administrative personnel with such tasks such as answering phone, greeting and directing guests, and using discretion in other situations that may occur.
  • Provide support for completing mailings and reports as needed.
