About The Position

This position is responsible for enforcing school policies and procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment. The Summer Security Specialist will manage visitor access, monitor security systems, patrol school grounds, and respond to incidents. The role requires strong communication skills, ethical conduct, and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and the public.

Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing duties.
  • Ability to sit and/or drive for long periods.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to reach, squat, climb stairs, kneel.
  • Ability to walk several hours per day in hallways and outside.
  • Ability to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).
  • Must be honest, sincere, and scrupulous in relationships with school personnel, students, community members, Supervisor of Security, and School Resource Officer.
  • Ability to communicate with young people and set limits without being antagonistic or abrasive.
  • Basic First Aid knowledge
  • CPR Certified

Nice To Haves

  • Some post high school education preferred.
  • Wide knowledge of teenage behaviors, gang activities and at-risk behaviors.
  • Strong, positive communication and interaction skills both oral and written.
  • Ethical and professional behavior.
  • Considerable discretion in the protection and release of confidential information.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce visitor management procedures, including identification checks and badge issuance.
  • Maintain visitor log sign-in sheets.
  • Direct unauthorized persons to leave school property.
  • Report discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and vandalism to administration.
  • Deter student loitering to ensure smooth traffic flow.
  • Monitor electronic security camera activity and report suspicious activity.
  • Check assigned areas (inside and outside) to prevent theft, vandalism, and unlawful acts.
  • Operate two-way radio devices professionally.
  • Observe student behavior to prevent altercations or disorder.
  • Render assistance within the school building as needed.
  • Help direct traffic flow for teachers, visitors, parents, and students, including during bus loading/unloading.
  • Supervise student activity on school grounds and within the building.
  • Protect school property.
  • Interpret and enforce Haverhill Public School policies and procedures.
  • Participate in security unit meetings and in-service training.
  • Maintain set hours and be available for additional hours if needed.
  • Attend work regularly and be punctual.
  • Perform other general duties as directed by administration.
