About The Position

This position is for a Summer Security Specialist at Gateway, with an anticipated opening in Spring. The role involves enforcing school security policies, managing visitor access, monitoring security systems, and ensuring the safety and order of school grounds and buildings during the summer period. The specialist will report to the Principal and/or their designee, as well as the Supervisor of Security and Assistant Superintendent of Schools for other matters. The position requires maintaining regular attendance, punctuality, and adherence to set hours, with potential availability for additional hours. The role also involves participating in security meetings and training, and performing general duties as directed by school administration and policies.

Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of performing duties.
  • Ability to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).
  • Must be honest, sincere, and scrupulous in relationships and work.
  • Ability to communicate with young people, including setting limits without being antagonistic or abrasive.
  • Basic First Aid knowledge and CPR Certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Some post high school education preferred.
  • Wide knowledge of teenage behaviors, gang activities and at risk behaviors.
  • Strong, positive communication and interaction skills both oral and written.
  • Ethical and professional behavior.
  • Considerable discretion in the protection and release of confidential information.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce visitor management procedures, including identification checks, badge issuance, and directing visitors.
  • Maintain visitor log sign-in sheets.
  • Communicate with unauthorized persons to leave school property if they have no legitimate reason to be present.
  • Report discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and vandalism to the Principal, Assistant Principals, and/or Supervisor of Security.
  • Deter student loitering to ensure smooth traffic flow.
  • Monitor electronic security camera activity and report questionable activity via radio.
  • Check assigned areas (inside and outside) and school grounds to prevent theft, vandalism, and unlawful acts.
  • Operate two-way radio devices professionally with other security personnel and administrators.
  • Observe student behavior to prevent altercations or disorder.
  • Render assistance within the school building as needed.
  • Help direct teacher, visitor, parent, and student traffic flow, including during bus loading/unloading.
  • Supervise student activity on school grounds and within the building as scheduled.
  • Protect school property.
  • Interpret and enforce Haverhill Public School policies and procedures.
  • Participate in security unit meetings and in-service training.
