About The Position

Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) is seeking a Summer Science Teacher to implement and coordinate a Summer Learning Loss (SLL) program-based literacy and science curricula. The goal is to mitigate the summer achievement gap by providing three hours of intensive direct instruction four days a week to campers in grades 1 to 6. The teacher will create a robust and effective learning environment for the campers. BGCB prioritizes teaching youth and teens the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle, and staff are expected to model healthy behavior. The organization values creating child-friendly environments where youth and teens of all abilities can be successful and participate, emphasizing inclusion of all members regardless of disability or developmental challenge. BGCB also encourages and requires staff to participate in annual professional development opportunities to cultivate their skills in youth development. Every staff member shares the responsibility for ensuring BGCB remains an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching science
  • Knowledge of youth development principles.
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work with children and youth from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Massachusetts Science Licensure (1-6) highly preferred
