About The Position

The Summer Academy Instructional Coach provides leadership in supporting high-quality instruction for high school credit recovery courses in English, mathematics, science, and history. The position focuses on improving student achievement through data-driven coaching, instructional support, and collaboration with program staff to ensure students meet course and graduation requirements.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of high school curriculum, standards, and instructional best practices across core content areas
  • Ability to analyze and use student data to inform instruction and coaching
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively support adult learners
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and facilitate reflective practice
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license
  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching at the high school level in a core content area
  • Evidence of improving student academic outcomes, including work with at-risk or credit recovery students

Nice To Haves

  • Endorsement in Administration and Supervision or Instructional Coaching/Curriculum and Instruction preferred
  • Experience in instructional coaching or professional learning facilitation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supports the implementation of effective, standards-aligned instruction across core content areas (ELA, math, science, and history)
  • Analyzes student performance data to monitor progress toward course completion and credit attainment
  • Conducts instructional observations and provides timely, actionable feedback to teachers
  • Coaches teachers in the use of evidence-based instructional strategies, differentiation, and intervention practices
  • Models effective instructional practices and supports collaborative lesson planning
  • Facilitates data discussions to guide instructional decision-making and monitor student progress
  • Ensures fidelity of curriculum implementation and alignment to program expectations
  • Monitors student attendance and engagement; collaborates with staff to address barriers to success
  • Communicates effectively with program staff and leadership to support program operations
  • Assists with student supervision during transitions, as needed
  • Attends all required program sessions, professional learning, and data meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator
