MIT Lincoln Laboratory•Westford, MA
•$25 - $44•Onsite

About The Position

The Advanced Sensors and Techniques Group is seeking a summer intern to help design, build, and test next-generation advanced radar systems for space surveillance in support of national security. The position is based at the Lincoln Space Surveillance Complex (LSSC) in Westford, Massachusetts, which hosts radar systems used to support awareness of man-made objects around Earth. Assignments may involve radar system analysis, RF testing and measurement, mechanical design, software development and testing, signal processing and algorithm development, embedded systems development, and data analysis. The Summer Research Program gives students the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to national security challenges alongside scientists and engineers. Interns participate in hands-on research, receive dedicated mentorship, and can take part in workshops, technical talks, networking events, and other professional development opportunities. Internships typically last 10–12 weeks, with flexible start and end dates, usually from May through early August. Eligible non-local interns may receive housing support, including access to discounted university housing in Boston and a one-time taxable relocation payment. Complimentary daily shuttle transportation is provided between Boston-based housing and the Lab. Hourly compensation depends on the highest academic year or degree completed before the internship begins, ranging from $25.00 per hour after freshman year to $43.50 per hour for candidates with an MS plus three years of graduate study. Selected candidates must undergo a pre-employment background investigation and be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level DoD security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.
