About The Position

Supervised by the Recreation Specialist, the candidate will work primarily as an assistant at our summer camps and on our mobile recreation unit, helping to lead and supervise participants. Other duties may include handling visitor inquiries, maintaining a safe and clean workplace, answering telephone calls, greeting, assisting and directing the public, keeping the Center organized and inviting to the public, etc. The schedule of the workweek will vary and may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Assessment of work is based upon personal performance. Work locations may vary based on program locations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid Class "C" non-commercial driver's license with no more than three (3) points.
  • Be advised this position requires a valid driver's license.
  • Able to deal with the public cooperatively and courteously
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationship with staff and volunteers
  • Ability to conduct public recreation, nature and/or outdoor adventure programs
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, climb and reach
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to move on rough terrain
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to keep simple records
  • Knowledge of sports, arts, and crafts, or local natural history
  • Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • One season of volunteer or paid experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conducts recreational and/or educational programs for the public.
  • Keeps buildings and premises in neat and safe condition.
  • Answers telephone inquiries; provides information, assists public with concerns or refers them to appropriate individual or takes messages; monitors, greets and directs the public throughout the facility.
  • Inspects building/grounds; notifies police when necessary.
  • Instructs users on the proper utilization of the facility and equipment.
  • Works in all types of weather with exposure to the outdoors.
